About

Restaurant
Xochi (so-chee), from Xochitl, Goddess of the Flowers, meaning to bloom or catch fire, is a creative endeavor of award-winning Chef Hugo Ortega and the H Town Restaurant Group team. Xochi celebrates the culinary and indigenous richness of Oaxaca, Mexico and its varied geographic regions and preservation of primitive customs with an unrivaled menu of Oaxaca-inspired food and drink. Oaxaca is known for mole, chocolate, mezcal and insects, which are all highlighted in Xochi’s menu. In keeping with tradition, everything is made from scratch, from cheeses, salsas, exotic moles, handmade tortillas and masa items fresh from the comal, and cacao beans roasted and ground in-house to create authentic Mexican chocolate. A variety of meats, seafood and vegetables are prepared in the wood-fired oven. There are even a few types of edible insects – delicacies in Mexico – on the menu! Xochi’s mole menu offers varieties from classic mole negro to mole de chicatana (ant mole). Dessert lovers will rejoice at the unique offerings, including a separate menu dedicated to chocolate. No trip to Oaxaca would be complete without Mezcal and Xochi offers close to 100 varieties of the area’s signature spirit, along with a unique selection of Mexican craft beers, inventive cocktails and a global wine list. We offer private rooms that are available for events, also our patio offers a view of Discovery Green Park and a view of bustling downtown Houston.

We went for Sunday brunch. Not sure why this restaurant has so many 5 stars reviews. I think the food is alright, not amazing. Desserts felt cheap. I mean for the price we paid I was expecting better quality. Orange juice was great, no complaints. The servers were super kind and the live music was fun. We had previously gone last year here and thought food wasn’t tasty. However, we got invited to go here again this year and gave it another try but nope. Great staff though.

Amazing food. Think all that is good in Mexican/Spaniard foods and elevate it. Finest restaurant, indeed. Presentation: 10 Taste: 10 creativity: 10 Service: 10 location: 10 lots of new spices and old ones utilized in a different manner, enhancing them. Great wine and beer selection. Outside sitting, fenced and safe for families with little ones. Very pleasant ambient. The foods and spices taste as if they're coming from the farmers straight to your table. No middleman. Everyone should have this experience at least once.

Xochi delivered an outstanding dining experience from start to finish. The barbacoa mole was rich and perfectly balanced, while the octopus was tender and beautifully charred—both dishes showcasing incredible depth of flavor. The bartenders were equally impressive, crafting cocktails with precision and genuine enthusiasm that elevated the entire evening. Between the vibrant atmosphere, thoughtful menu, and top-notch service, Xochi easily earns a spot among the city’s best spots for a memorable night out.

You cannot best Xochi for authentic upscale Oaxacan food in Houston. The food is phenomenal, and the service is excellent. My only complaint is that the atmosphere is too brightly lit and loud, making it tough to be heard in a normal voice. The seating arrangements could use done work as well to afford greater intimacy for small groups.

I made a big mistake on my reservation as I booked the wrong date but the woman hostess was still able to fit us in spite being a busy day at the hotel, so very much appreciated!! Carlos was our waiter and did a good job. With the restaurant closing up and staff leaving in the kitchen we lost him towards the end and wished we were able to get a hot chocolate to go but otherwise everything else was great for our Anniversary. Thank you for the experience!
