Today I went to the store to pick up a few props for a session, and while I was there, I witnessed something very disappointing. A manager named Megan made an unkind comment to an employee named Nelly about the way she was greeting customers. She said something along the lines of, “Stop being a crusty crab,” or “Don’t greet people like this is the Krusty Krab.” I can’t remember the exact words, but it was clearly sarcastic and said in front of other shoppers. It was extremely uncomfortable to watch. Nelly was doing her best—she was polite, professional, and actively greeting customers—yet she was spoken to in a way that was humiliating and completely uncalled for. I truly felt second-hand embarrassment on her behalf. No employee deserves to be spoken to like that—especially not in front of customers.

Manager was unprofessional and condescending!! Yesterday at the World Market store, I witnessed a young cashier named Nelly helping a customer purchasing Dubai candy. She seemed a bit flustered, I got the sense she was new since I hadn’t seen her before. She tried everything to scan the item—using the barcode, lifting the sticker, even searching on a store device—but nothing worked. When Nelly asked the manager, Megan, for help, I was shocked by Megan's response. Instead of offering support, Megan replied sarcastically in front of the customer, saying things like, “What do you think you should do?” and “Let’s think about it. Do you think that’s the best option?” It was humiliating and completely unnecessary. Truly not a time for a "teachable moment" Despite that, Nelly handled herself with professionalism and kindness. I made sure to thank her personally for her service and for keeping her composure, even under pressure. She deserves to be respected and supported—especially as a new employee doing her best. Honestly, I walked away feeling more impressed with her than with Megan the person who’s supposed to be leading her.

A few weeks ago, I had a great checkout experience with a young lady named Nelly (NELY). She was professional and kind. While I was being helped, her father—next in line—also wanted to be checked out by her. Nelly mentioned, “That’s my dad,” and a manager named Megan loudly shouted from across the store that she couldn’t ring up family. Her tone was sarcastic and unprofessional, and she even joked she can’t check out her own grandmother. It was uncomfortable to witness, especially since Nelly handled herself so well. She was a 10/10, but the behavior I observed from management was a 0/10. Megan could really benefit from training in leadership, customer service, and how to treat team members with respect.
