Has your search for a good home for your Mom or Dad been exhausting?... Park your reservations at the door…from the outside looking in - a Peer Review
I have had the pleasure of caring for people along side the Willows staff for over 6 years as an RN with a faith-based non-profit organization. My comments are detailed and I feel important, as the search for my own Mother out-of-state draws nearer. I hope you find this helpful.
Nursing – DON Katrice - Her passion, knowledge, prompt attention, excellent communications, and the art of specialized care and consideration for your loved one with Dementia is surpassed by none that I’ve ever worked with. Her ability to consistently prioritize and juggle the needs of everyone is nothing short of amazing. We share a mutual respect and care about honesty; Katrice makes me a better Nurse.
Caregivers – The quality of care at the Willows is rather unique. Caregivers always know the status of their residents including their food intake, any skin issues with prompt reporting, functional changes, or any safety concerns. What sets them apart from any other place is that they seek and utilize the teaching from Nursing because they care. Education over many years with the same caregiving staff is mostly unheard of in today’s climate of shifting personnel. Additionally, I feel that there is a sense of moral obligation in the care they provide; it’s not just a job or paycheck.
Dining Team – The first word I think of regarding meals at the Willows is Quality. The dining experience for our loved ones is one of the most important times of the day. All meals are nutritionally well-balanced, and presentation is of a fine restaurant.
Activities – Group activities are not half-hearted here. One can tell the great pride that Shelly takes in her activity planning. Whether its holiday-themed inspired, or the everyday enjoyment of games, baking, or simple conversation…she really knows the people she cares for. I sometime see individuated sessions of activity with those whom are challenged with larger group settings. Shelly has met her calling.
Salon Services – The ladies just love when we compliment them on their hair! Teri’s styling skills make them feel so pretty.
Housekeeping – A clean environment is a healthy environment for all. I personally find this important.
Leadership – The secret of success of the Willows must include the mention of the exceptional leadership from the Southview team. A true understanding of the staff’s needs and support make it all possible.
I see many beautiful facilities as a traveling nurse, but what is on the inside is just as, if not more important than the outside. No one person or organization is perfect; however, I see a genuine effort in the search for excellence here.
I write this review with gratitude. The opportunity to care for people and their families with the same values that I have is a blessing. We’re all cut from the same cloth.
Thank you for your time,
Diana Doherty, RN Grace Hospice
I have served patients both as a hospice chaplain and as a volunteer at the Willows of Arbor Lakes for the past three years and they are an incredible team, in a great facility ... caring for the most precious among us. Katrice is one of the best directors of nursing that I have ever met. She has a heart of gold and is an extremely talented and dedicated caregiver. The staff is fantastic and I highly recommend them. They're the best!

My grandma lived here in the memory care unit for several months after being discharged from the hospital. While of course there are some wonderful, hard-working people here that I appreciate so much, for the most part, my grandma was neglected and did not receive the care or treatment she deserves, especially considering the fact that we paid over $6000 per month for her to live there.
I understand being short-staffed and overworked, I am a social worker... However, the way I saw some of the workers treat my grandma was unacceptable.
Additionally, they did not provide many of the services that we were paying for them to provide. My grandma was lucky if she got her clothes changed once a week, they rarely did activities with the residents, and they told her "they could not help her" when she asked them to help her dial the phone to make a phone call or turn the TV on, etc. They would say things like "you better eat your meal now because you will not get anything later," and overall were just mean.

My mother was afraid of the staff here in the memory care unit. I saw the staff being pushy with the people who needed their care and they were neglected when it came to meeting their bathroom needs, help in their rooms with the tv and phone. My mom was lucky if she got her cloth changed once a week. She was told at meals she better sit down and eat because that’s all she was going to get. The staff was hard to find at times and there were nothing to challenge the residents if the daily activity was done for the day. The staff seem like they were put out and didn’t interact with the residents kindly. They could use more training on how to work with people who have memory issues.
