The Wicks team refinished our old hardwood floor in the kitchen, dining area, and foyer - and installed new hardwood floor in our master bedroom. We're very pleased with the outcome, and it was a pleasure to work with Mike Wichert and the rest of the Wicks team. Professional workmanship and wonderful people.

Frequently Asked Questions About Wicks Wood Floors, Inc.
Why choose hardwood floors?
Hardwood flooring is an excellent choice for its safety, cleanliness, and low maintenance requirements. It's not only beautiful but also adds value to your home. With proper care, hardwood floors can last for generations, making them a long-term investment in your property.
Site-finished or factory-finished?
At Wicks Wood Floors, Inc, we specialize in site-finished hardwood flooring, which offers maximum customization. We install raw wood and sand it on-site, allowing you to choose your preferred stain. Factory-finished floors, on the other hand, come pre-stained and can be walked on immediately after installation.
Solid or engineered flooring?
Solid wood flooring consists of a single piece of wood and can be refinished multiple times, lasting over 100 years. Engineered flooring has a solid wood veneer on top of several substrate layers. Some engineered floors can be refinished, depending on the thickness of the wood veneer.
Cracks between boards?
Seasonal changes and humidity fluctuations can cause hardwood floors to expand and contract, resulting in spaces between boards. These gaps are normal and usually close when moisture returns to the air. We recommend installing a humidifier to minimize these changes.
Fading of wood floors?
Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause wood floors to fade or discolor, similar to other home furnishings. We suggest using window coverings during periods of intense sunlight to protect your floors.
Pets and wood floors?
Wood floors are compatible with pets when properly maintained. Regular trimming of your pet's claws and following appropriate floor care routines will help preserve your hardwood. Our high-grade residential finish ensures durability, and hardwood floors make cleaning pet hair easier.
Wood floor life expectancy?
With proper care, hardwood flooring can last a lifetime. Unlike other home elements that require frequent replacement, your wood floor will endure and even increase your home's value. Typically, hardwood floors can be sanded about 7 times, with 15-20 years between each sanding.
Board replacement or repair?
We offer services to replace pet-stained or water-damaged boards in your existing hardwood floor. After replacing the affected boards, we sand the area to ensure uniform flatness and mix a custom stain to match your current flooring.
Wood flooring versus other flooring products?
Hardwood flooring provides superior warmth compared to tile and linoleum. It's generally more cost-effective than tile and comparable in price to high-quality laminate or carpet. Additionally, hardwood flooring can increase your home's value.
Service area?
Wicks Wood Floors serves homeowners throughout Southeast Wisconsin, including Milwaukee, Waukesha, Wauwatosa, Brookfield, Sussex, Elm Grove, Oconomowoc, Pewaukee, New Berlin, and surrounding areas. We provide hardwood flooring solutions for both new construction and historic homes.
