Welter Construction built a 14 by 12 composite deck for us this fall. Overall, I was happy with the experience:
- The team was good to work with. It's clear that the ownership really cares about doing a good job and they will stay in constant contact with you on every last detail.
- The price ended up being competitive after a little bit of negotiation.
- Welter took care of everything, including permits and inspection (which, as I learned from the entire summer it took me to find a builder, is far from a given).
- The construction process went well and required only minimal adjustments, all of which were not super common items and were taken care of quickly.
That said, there are a few things I'd be remiss if I didn't let other potential customers know about:
- Welter is still trying to grow and learn how to do better; as such, their time estimates ended up being unrealistic vs. what actually happened. I get it - construction projects take time and supply shortages are still a thing. But I'd have preferred them to under-promise their timeline so that it didn't feel more drawn out than it should have been. We originally agreed on the work in late August, design took a couple of weeks, permits were ready in another two (not something I assume they have control over) and the building took four weeks to complete.
- The lumber company they use, Lampert Lumber, have a habit of sending home owners sinister-looking Notices of Furnishing which have scary words like "lien" on them. They are innocuous enough in the end, as it's merely a statement protecting their rights as suppliers, but to someone not used to receiving such paperwork they can initially be alarming. It would have been good if we had been warned about this ahead of time.
- Make sure your quote includes every line item, including permits, so that your eventual bill doesn't end up being higher than you anticipated. We had a permit fee of about $200 show up unexpected vs. our original negotiation - to Welter's credit, they took care of it immediately.
All in all, though, I'm happy with our investment and our new deck looks great!

I had my roof & some siding replaced in 2018 from storm damage. I am now selling my house and come to find out. There was no final inspection from the city so now it remains Noncompliant. This company had horrible communication throughout the process. I went outside on Christmas Eve at around 4 o’clock to see what all the noise was and there’s people working on the house. Happy that my house was getting done, but no communication that someone was even coming that day and it was very near to the holiday. I left a horrible review originally and then was asked to take it down by the company. And I’m still having to deal with their issues. In addition, the chimney pipe for the fireplace has been in stalled crooked since the company replaced roof.
Frequently Asked Questions About Welter Construction
How long will my remodeling project take?
The duration of a remodeling project varies depending on its scope. A small bathroom renovation might be completed in one to two weeks, while more extensive projects like a full kitchen remodel or home addition could take several months. It's advisable to factor in extra time for potential delays. For reliable remodeling services, contact Welter Construction to begin your project.
What should I consider when budgeting for a remodel?
When budgeting for a remodel, include costs for materials, labor, permits, and a contingency fund of 10-20% for unexpected expenses. Focus your spending on high-impact areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, which can significantly increase your home's value. According to Architectural Digest, kitchen renovations can yield up to a 75% return on investment. For expert kitchen remodeling, reach out to Welter Construction.
Do I need permits for my remodeling project?
Most major remodeling projects, particularly those involving structural changes, electrical work, or plumbing, require permits. Minor updates may not need them. It's best to check with your local building department for specific requirements. If you've already secured your permits and are ready to start your kitchen or home remodeling project, contact Welter Construction.
How can I make sure my remodel stays on budget?
To keep your remodel within budget, establish a clear financial plan from the start, minimize changes during the project, and maintain open communication with your contractor. Request detailed quotes and consider fixed-price contracts to avoid unexpected costs. When you're ready to begin your home addition or remodeling project with a budget-conscious approach, contact Welter Construction.
What are the benefits of hiring a licensed contractor?
Licensed contractors meet legal requirements, typically carry insurance, and are held to professional standards. This reduces the risk of subpar workmanship and potential liabilities. If you're seeking licensed, experienced basement finishing professionals, consider contacting Welter Construction.
What's the difference between remodeling and restoration?
Remodeling involves updating or altering the design and layout of a space, while restoration focuses on returning an area to its original condition, often in historic properties. For over five decades, homeowners have relied on Welter Construction for both kitchen and home remodeling projects. Contact our team to discuss your specific needs.
How can I ensure my remodel fits my style and increases home value?
To achieve a remodel that reflects your personal style while enhancing your home's value, consider consulting with a designer. They can help balance your preferences with universally appealing elements. Investing in high-quality, durable materials and timeless designs often improves both aesthetics and resale value. If you're planning a bathroom remodel, Welter Construction's team is ready to assist you.
What are some common hidden costs in remodeling?
Remodeling projects may uncover unexpected costs related to outdated electrical systems, structural issues, asbestos removal, or necessary plumbing upgrades. To minimize surprises, it's advisable to have a detailed inspection before starting the project. For a comprehensive understanding of the remodeling process and potential costs, consult with Welter Construction's experienced home additions and remodeling team.
