- DEDavid EllisAug 7, 20255.0We’re still on vacation, but I’m already in full relaxation mode—glass of wine in hand, sharing Boudin sourdough with my wife, and people-watching from a huge open window overlooking Filbert & Stockton. We absolutely love it here. We stayed in this same room two years ago and couldn’t stop talking about it—so we made sure to book it again. Washington Square Inn is perfectly located in the heart of North Beach (Little Italy). After a day of exploring the city, there’s nothing better than unwinding in the cool breeze with the scent of fresh Italian bread and marinara drifting in. We stocked up on sparkling wines from Trader Joe’s—one bottle chilled for each afternoon. The Inn is steps (1–5 min walk) from at least two dozen of the best Italian restaurants around. Chinatown is just 10 minutes away, and Fisherman’s Wharf is a 12-minute walk in the other direction. You’re in the middle of everything—but it’s quiet by 9 or 10 PM. Our favorite routine: a great Italian dinner followed by dessert from one of the neighborhood’s excellent bakeries. We still have two nights left, and we’re already planning next August—maybe two nights here and two in Napa.

My husband and I stayed in Washington Square Inn for 3 nights and we were very pleased with the space, the location and the service. This hotel is no frills, but it is clean and tidy. We had no issues with the open key process, the building entry or staff communication. The staff were wonderful and very prompt in their commmunications back to me when I had questions. I would absolutely recommend Washington Square Inn to others looking for a budget, but clean and comfortable hotel in this area.
