If you’ve ever got to go to physical rehab because of an accident, this is the place to go to. Great staff and physical and occupational therapists, plus great food. Can’t say enough great things about the Vi at Palo Alto. T

This is the second time my mother-in-law had a joint replaced and did her rehab at the Vi skilled nursing facility in Palo Alto. She would not have had the second replacement if the recovery of the first one didn’t go as well as it did. It is truly our opinion, but if a skilled nursing facility is needed in Northern California, the Vi is by far the best!!

Hi:
After two weeks in Skilled Nursing at the VI (pronounced Vee), I am now home.
Pros:
1. They accept Medicare
2. The Skilled Nursing unit is run by its director, Cecilia. I recommend meeting Celia before arriving at the VI. She is a warm, empathetic director who has only one goal in mind: to provide the best Rehab services and experience to the people at the VI. Meeting Celia in advance will help you secure a spot at the VI upon release from the hospital.
3. Fabulous, and first rate PT and OT staff at the VI. One thing that impressed me off the bat was the head of the Therapy Unit met me the first day and ask me what MY goals were! And, for the next two weeks, all of the therapists I had Cade (OT), Vivian (PT) and Nishi (PT) worked very hard to achieve my #1 goal: Fall prevention while walking without an assistive device. I am happy to say that after achieving mastery of walking with a walker, I moved onto walking 20 minutes with a cane with a hurricane bottom. Before I left VI yesterday, I had even begun walking very short distances without the cane. Needless, to say, I am overjoyed at the progress I made in just 2 weeks after spinal surgery. I worked very hard on fall prevention and look forward to continuing to work towards achieving my ultimate goal of walking without an assistive device. Thanks to the therapists above, I can honestly say that I no longer have any fear of falling because of the skills I learned at the VI.
4. Spacious single occupancy room.
5. Excellent 3 meals per day - chosen by me daily. Easily equivalent to the food served by International business class airlines to Europe, alas with no wine, lol.
6. Finally, the most important component - along with my therapists - the medical staff at the VI. Both the licensed Nurses and nurses’ aides were uniformly excellent. I apologize for not remembering all their names but each one was patient forward friendly and always ready to listen to me. My two week medical rehab was fairly uneventful because I did not have any residual pain from the surgery. Nor did I ever have any bacterial infection over nearly the 3 1/2 weeks in the hospital or at the VI combined. . I recognize that I have been very fortunate to receive this level of care.

A Life Plan Community, also known as a continuing care retirement community or “CCRC” offers residents a combination of housing, dining, and certain amenities and health care services in return for a monthly fee and an entrance fee. Residents do not purchase their apartments. The entrance fee and monthly fees you pay give you the right to occupy an apartment for life and cover the services you receive while residing at the community, including the care services offered at the community’s care center.
Where is Vi at Palo Alto?
Vi at Palo Alto is located at 620 Sand Hill Road, Palo Alto, CA 94304
What care does Vi at Palo Alto offer?
There are three basic types of continuing care contracts that a CCRC may offer, commonly known as Type A, Type B, and Type C.
A Type A contract provides the most comprehensive continuing care coverage. A Type A contract generally provides for transfer to any of the community’s care venues for an unlimited time at little or no additional cost beyond the monthly fee paid while residing in independent living (including any ongoing monthly fee increases applicable to such independent living unit) and the costs of ancillary supplies and additional meals.
A Type B contract typically includes a specific number of “free” days in the community’s care venues at the monthly fee rate paid by the resident for his/her independent living apartment. When those “free” days are exhausted, the resident begins to pay a market rate for care services. With this type of contract, the resident assumes some risk in terms of paying for services at an amount in excess of the monthly fee.
A Type C (or fee-for-service) contract does not include care services at the monthly fee rate or discounted rate. Residents receive priority admission to the community care venues, but must pay the market rate for care venue services. With this type of contract, the resident assumes the highest level of risk, as charges will vary depending upon the services needed.
Vi at Palo Alto offers only a Type A continuing care contract.
