As long-standing members of U.S. Federal Credit Union Portage with no prior issues, we felt confident recommending this institution to our nephew. Unfortunately, we now fully regret that recommendation. When our nephew reached out to an auto loan representative, he was repeatedly brushed off without clear communication. The common responses were that the representative was busy, on lunch, or simply unavailable. After getting nowhere by phone, he made the effort to visit the branch in person this past Friday. Despite being told the representative was unavailable, he saw them in plain view and asked directly to speck. The representative agreed and asked him to return Monday morning which was his only day off this week. However, the representative canceled the appointment last minute via message, stating they would not be available and asked him to come Tuesday instead. This show complete disregard, especially since he had clearly mentioned he wouldn't be free Tuesday due to work obligations. This level of inconsistency and lack of professionalism displayed during this process is unacceptable as well as deeply disappointing. A financial institution should be built on reliability, trust, and respect along with a wellness to help people that existing members recommend to them. We expected much more from an institution we once trusted. We hope that U.S. Federal Credit Union Portage reconsiders how they engage with new prospective members--especially those who take the time to show up in person. Michael & Tonya

CUSTOMER BEWARE: This bank is a complete disgrace. I have officially filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and I strongly encourage anyone experiencing similar issues to do the same. What this bank is doing to its customers is not just unethical—it should be illegal. Let me be clear: they engage in debit transaction resequencing, and they do it intentionally. This means they deliberately reorder your transactions—processing larger debits before smaller ones—to artificially trigger overdraft fees. Even when the money is clearly available in your account, they manipulate the timing so it looks like you’re overdrawn. It’s nothing short of a scam designed to bleed you dry, one fee at a time. And don’t think this is an isolated incident. It’s systematic. This is baked into the way their systems are set up. The technology they’re using is completely outdated—something you’d expect from a third-rate operation running on broken 90s software. They are either completely negligent or intentionally keeping things broken to maximize their profit. Either way, it’s a disaster for the customer. What’s even more outrageous is that they had the audacity to admit parts of this behavior in a recording—as if casually acknowledging their unethical practices somehow makes it acceptable. That admission proves this isn’t a glitch or a misunderstanding. It’s a calculated business strategy. They know exactly what they’re doing, and they simply don’t care. And if you think calling them will help? Think again. Their customer service is among the worst I’ve ever experienced with any business, anywhere. Every time I’ve called, I’ve been treated with condescension, attitude, and outright rudeness. The people on the other end of the phone act like they’re doing you a favor by picking up. I’ve consistently been met with female representatives who sound annoyed, dismissive, and utterly uninterested in helping resolve anything. They interrupt, they talk down to you, and they act like it’s your fault for expecting basic competence. There is absolutely no accountability. No urgency. No respect. You’re just a number to them—a dollar sign they can squeeze a few more fees out of before they move on to the next victim. Let me be absolutely clear: this bank is predatory, outdated, mismanaged, and completely devoid of integrity. Their practices are exploitative, their systems are broken by design, and their employees are either poorly trained or encouraged to be rude and dismissive. You will not get help. You will not get fairness. You will not get respect. If you value your time, your money, your mental health, or your dignity, you need to stay far away from this bank. Move your money somewhere else—somewhere modern, transparent, and ethical. There are better options out there, and no one deserves to be treated the way this bank treats its customers. This is a warning. Do not ignore it.

Second time this year I've been short changed when getting quarters. When I call I can't reach anyone bc they are "busy". I'm closing my account. I advise not doing business with these ppl Edit: closed account and the manager whomever she was wanted to continue to blame Brinks the teller was apologizing about it manager wanted to be rude and play the blame game.
