Incredibly knowledgeable and kind expert staff! As someone just starting to learn about houseplants, it’s so helpful to have them mix just the right amount and kind of soil that I need. The money tree I got in August is thriving. ✨

Frequently Asked Questions About Urban Pothos Houseplant Shop
Does Urban Pothos sell potting soil?
Urban Pothos offers an extensive range of soils to meet your plant care needs. Our selection includes premium artisanal mixes from various small brands, suitable for all types of houseplants. For those who prefer customization, our Soil Bar provides the components necessary to create your own high-quality potting mix. Custom soil blends from the Soil Bar are priced by weight.
Can I return a plant after I've purchased it?
Urban Pothos does not accept plant returns or provide refunds or exchanges for purchased plants. This policy is in place because we cannot verify the conditions in which the plant was kept after leaving our shop. However, if you experience issues such as pests, disease, or fungal problems within 7 days of purchase, we will replace the plant with one of equivalent value. Beyond this 7-day period, no returns, exchanges, or refunds are offered for plants.
When should I repot my plant?
The need for repotting is primarily determined by root growth rather than a specific timeline. Signs that indicate it's time to repot include roots emerging from the bottom of the pot, a dense network of roots (possibly encircling the root ball) when the plant is removed from its pot, soil that doesn't retain water effectively, or unexpected yellowing of leaves.
Can I re-pot my plants at Urban Pothos?
While Urban Pothos provides all necessary supplies for repotting, we do not allow customers to repot plants in our stores. However, we do offer a professional repotting service for those who prefer to have this task handled by our experienced staff.
What plants are pet-friendly?
Most houseplants have some level of toxicity to dogs and cats. We strongly advise against all varieties of lilies for pet owners. For pet-safe options, consider peperomias, calatheas, marantas, and pilea. To assist our customers, Urban Pothos identifies all pet-friendly plants with a paw print symbol for easy recognition.
How often should I water my cactus?
Generally, cacti require watering only once per month, which aligns with their native habitat's infrequent rainfall. However, certain species such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter cacti are exceptions. These forest-dwelling cacti have higher water requirements and need more frequent watering.
How can I increase the humidity for my plants?
Several methods can be employed to increase humidity for plants. These include using pebble trays or humidifiers, placing plants in groups, and regularly misting or showering your plants.
Is air conditioning and heating bad for my plants?
While HVAC systems maintain comfortable temperatures for humans, they can negatively impact houseplants. Air conditioning and heating units circulate dry air, which reduces humidity and can dehydrate plants. Using a humidifier can benefit both you and your plants in this environment.
Why are my plant's leaves yellowing?
Leaf yellowing in plants can be attributed to various factors. These may include nutrient deficiencies, pest infestations, inadequate lighting, improper watering practices, unsuitable temperatures, or drainage issues.
Are Calatheas difficult plants to care for?
Calatheas are often considered challenging due to their specific requirements. While their basic care needs are similar to many other plants, Calatheas distinguish themselves by their high humidity demands. Meeting this humidity requirement is key to successfully growing Calatheas.
