I really don’t even know where to begin… but if I could give Universal Alteration 10 stars I would!! She altered my wedding dress for me 3 years ago and did a very lovely job. My last experience working with her solidly sealed the deal for me. I will never go to another tailor. Long story short, I went to a tailor closer to me who was really quite expensive and did a poor job on my dress alterations. I got my dress back from her a total mess THREE DAYS BEFORE THE WEDDING!!! So I called Universal Alterations the following day and explained my dress situation and my time line and all my travels and she got me in THAT DAY! She had my dress completed for me the following day for a fraction of the price and beautifully done. Mandrin did such an outstanding job!! She was so kind to me the whole time, I didn’t feel like I was burdening her for asking for a last second favor like that.
10/10 person to work with
10/10 services
She really went above and beyond for me. Could any of you imagine the bride had I shown up after my first alteration?! Had I not gone to Mandrin?! Don’t waste your time. Seriously, go to Universal Alteration. I don’t care how far I have to travel, I’m not going to anybody else ever!
(The first picture IS NOT Mandrin’s work. The pictures of the wedding day are her work.)

Wouldn’t recommend for bridal alterations. All I needed altered was to hem the bottom as it was a little too long. Dropped off and was told to pick up on a specific date and time. I called the day before I was supposed to pick it up to ask if I could come a couple hours early to pick it up and she said she couldn’t find my dress and if I was sure I dropped it off at this place. She asked me to send her a picture of the slip she gave me when I dropped it off so I did. She said she found it and I asked if it would be ready which she said yes. When I got there the next morning they did have it but it was not completed, it was a little worrisome how poorly the bottom was cut. I unfortunately didn’t take pictures but I did point out to her how the cuts were not even or finished and she agreed and said they’d fix it. 3 weeks later I came back at my scheduled time and it wasn’t done, she asked if I could come back in 30 mins. I came back 45 mins later, still not done, she said give her 10 mins so I waited in the shop until it was “finished”. It appeared all she did was steam it because the bottom was still uneven and unfinished. At this point I said I would just take the dress and do it myself and she said no she could fix it and to come back again tomorrow and she’ll have it good. Finally after coming back yet again, the hem was completed to a satisfactory standard.
When it came time to pay I asked for them to take a little off for my troubles, considering I had to come back 3-4 times before it was finished and their response was no because it is a wedding dress and can take that many fittings for wedding dresses. I felt that was pretty unfair considering the times I had to go back were because the work was either not done or done poorly, not due to additional alterations needed for it to fit correctly.

I have had a lot of my daughters pageant wardrobe altered and repaired here. They do an amazing job and always alter the dresses perfectly. Many of the pieces they have worked on are custom designer dresses and I trust them with everything.
Highly recommend their alterations. Bought a nice mens suit at Macy's that needed sleeve alterations and it was expertly done in a week. I sew myself but didn't have the time or inclination to do it this time so I know good work when I see it. They also do upholstery and will be sending them photos to get an estimate. I have full confidence in their work.

I was looking for a tailor closer to home (primarily for during the winter time) that could do a quick casual shirt or fix a tear around a zipper.
Onto the test! I already had a casual shirt that fit me well which my usual tailor did, so I bought a bunch more of the same shirt. Easy enough right? So I bring one of the shirts to this place and was told it would take a week. That's cool, I guess.
A week goes by, I picked up the shirt, brought it home, it no longer fits. For relevancy, I'm a fairly slim guy, but I couldn't even button it up half way, the thing was ruined and ended up having to throw it away. It was almost as if all the fitting pins were taken out and then they just guessed at where it needed to be cut. Almost the same happened at that place in Coon Rapids, had to throw away that shirt as well.
Here's my thinking alright...if I buy a shirt, take it to a tailor, pay for their services, then they give me back a shirt that I can no longer wear (or in other words can't take a simple casual shirt and turn it into a well-fitting simple casual shirt) then there's a problem with that. These tailors here aren't professionals.
