I wanted to address a review by someone named Vincent Phan that I found quite disheartening, especially considering the expertise behind this business. The owner is a marine biologist with 25 years of experience running the company, and also a chemist—so you’re dealing with true professional here. Who trained his employees. If you’re inclined to believe negative comments from a random google who gets info from Reddit users, maybe Petco is more your style.
I’ve also noticed some negative remarks about a female staff member, but from my experience, she is upright, friendly, honest, and incredibly patient in explaining how things work. Rather than just selling you something, she offers alternative ideas if a product won’t work for your tank, which shows real care and knowledge.
The clientele tends to be older, and I can imagine it’s been tough for her to earn respect, especially since she looks young but is clearly a grown woman. I even witnessed a man rudely telling her she’d look prettier if she just stayed quiet and didn’t work—unfortunately, that kind of disrespect happens. Despite that, she is very smart and seems to have a slight stutter, possibly due to an accent or that limitation of words, but that doesn’t diminish her expertise at all.
The staff is limited, so please be patient—they are local and take the time to help each customer properly. If you want fast, impersonal service, big chains like Petco or PetSmart might suit you better. But if you want a small business that truly cares about the community, offers hand-picked and well-cared-for fish, and can order custom stock for you, this is the place to go. Their selection is average but thoughtfully curated, and the personalized service is worth it. Highly recommended!
