  This has to be the most professional and complete chimney/vent service business in the Austin and surrounding area. The staff has an impressive knowledge base. The techs are very thorough and courteous. We had our chimney inspected and dryer vents cleaned, but i will definitely call on them again for all my chimney, dryer and AC vents servicing. I know i can trust them to keep my family safe with the way they work.

  I am not sure what is going on at Top Hat Chimney Sweeps in Taylor as my 83 year old mother STILL is unable to use her primary source of heat which was working well before their service call. My mother received a message from Top Hat Chimney Sweeps offering maintenance to get her chimney ready for the upcoming season. For $160, a technician looked inside the stove, then went up to the roof, and stuck a wire brush inside the chimney, moving it up and down a few times. He then came back inside, asked for her vacuum to attempt to remove what he had broken loose from the inside of the chimney, and then left. When the first cold front of the season arrived, she made a fire like she has done in that very same house for over 50 years and the house filled with smoke. She called back and was told they did what they said they were going to do, and if they came back out, it would cost her another $75. Important to note: the stove was completely reset and thoroughly checked a year before when she remodeled. Because my mother is 83 years old, I wanted to find out what service was offered for the initial $160. The lady who answered the phone told me that the reason her house filled with smoke is because my mother does not make a fire correctly. She went into a long explanation about how she should be using paper to warm up the chimney before she puts logs inside. I have lived in a house with a wood burning stove for more than 30 years and have never "heated up the chimney with paper" and in fact, never burn paper in the stove because I was told by the company who installed our wood stove that paper would add to the build up in the chimney. I am leaving a review because it seems that this company is taking advantage of elderly ladies who trust them to help them prepare for cold weather when it seems their only intention is to take their money, send a bunch of photos in a meaningless report. The fact is, the house fills with smoke after their visit.
