Frequently Asked Questions About Time To Shine Power Washing & Window Cleaning
Why do I need my house washed?
Regular house washing is essential for maintaining your property's appearance and protecting its structural integrity. Removing mold, mildew, algae, and other contaminants prevents premature paint deterioration and permanent staining on siding, concrete, and gutters. It's an affordable way to enhance your home's curb appeal and safeguard your family's health by preventing the spread of allergens and respiratory irritants. Even brick and stucco exteriors can benefit from proper cleaning techniques.
Isn't mold a health problem?
Indeed, mold and mildew can pose significant health risks, particularly for individuals with allergies or asthma. Our cleaning methods effectively remove these harmful substances from siding, trim, and concrete surfaces. It's especially important to clean areas where children play, such as driveways or walkways, to prevent them from coming into contact with mold spores.
Do you supply the water for homes with wells?
Certainly. Time To Shine Power Washing is equipped with a fresh water tank system to supply water when needed. However, for most residential pressure washing jobs, we typically utilize the customer's water supply.
Will the cleaning harm my plants?
Our cleaning process is entirely safe for plants, people, and pets when properly executed. We employ an exclusive power wash cleaning method that uses self-neutralizing cleaning and rinsing agents, ensuring the safety of your landscaping and surroundings.
Can you wash a house or deck in the rain?
Yes, we can perform house or deck washing in rainy conditions. Since the cleaning process involves wetting the surfaces anyway, light rain doesn't significantly impact our work. However, we will reschedule if there are safety concerns, such as the presence of lightning.
Do I have to be home on the day of service?
No, you don't need to be present during the cleaning service. We've designed our process to be convenient for our clients. If you won't be home, please ensure all windows are closed, the driveway is clear, and any fragile decorations on your home or deck are safely stored away.
Can you remove oil stains on concrete from my garage or driveway that have been there for years?
Yes, we can address long-standing oil stains on concrete surfaces. Our process involves specialized chemicals and detergents that penetrate the concrete to break down oils. While some stubborn stains may leave a faint gray mark, the overall appearance of your concrete will be significantly improved after our restoration and cleaning treatment.
There are small very dark raised spots on my siding in places. What is this and can you remove them?
These dark spots are likely artillery fungus spores, originating from mushrooms in decomposing mulch or wood chips. They're often found near mulched areas. Unfortunately, complete removal is challenging. Power washing can help, but the most effective prevention is replacing organic mulch with non-organic alternatives like decorative stone or rubber mulch products. If the problem persists, consider removing and replacing affected siding.
How often should I get my house washed?
We recommend having your house washed every two to three years. However, lighter-colored siding in shaded areas may benefit from annual cleaning to maintain its appearance and prevent mold growth.
What are the black lines on my gutters? Can they be removed?
These black lines that you see on your gutters are actually NOT dirt! They are caused when certain materials within your composite roofing shingles become "electro-statically" bonded to the surface of your rain gutters. The bond is so strong, that it is impossible to completely remove them with just soap and water.
Don’t be deceived those black streaks are harder to come off then you think. Most homeowners try and are not successful - however we will get them looking new again.
We wash from the top of foundation to the gutters and everything in between but depending on how long ago the house or building was washed and what contaminants are on it we might have to detail certain items so they can really get clean again. Most times, run-off from roof tile and oxidation (the black streaks you see) exhaust and road film cannot be removed merely by simply power washing alone.
Those black streaks are attached to the gutters electrostatically. The negatively charged ions from the roof runoff will stick to the positively charged ions of the gutters causing the hard to remove irregular lines. The process is called oxidation. These stains cannot be removed by power washing alone and removal requires hand scrubbing and detailing to break the electrostatic bond.
Yes, some of the contaminants on the gutters may be dirt, mold, bird droppings and algae, but the majority of the offending tiger striped, black streaks are from rain running over the asphalt shingles and dripping over the side of the gutter.
The black streaks and dots are the result of electrostatic bonding of tar and asphalt runoff from roofing materials and other contaminants that attach themselves to Aluminum material: gutters downspouts, capping, etc. that seem impervious to just power washing alone can be removed by special chemicals and detailing procedures.
My contractor said my siding and deck are zero maintenance. Is this true?
Low maintenance yes, zero maintenance no. Anything left outside in the sun and humidity will get dirty. Like everything in life, it will get dirty and will need to be cleaned. Treat your house like your car and give it a bath.
Why should I pay you for something I could do myself?
Great question! Washing may seem like a pretty easy task as first, but once you begin - it is a completely different story. There are many questions to ask yourself: What kind of surface do I need washed? Do I need chemicals to get it clean? How am I going to reach the top? What if I use too much pressure? How long do I really want to spend doing this?
Truth is, washing your car is enough of a task let alone your house. Our state-of-the-art equipment and industrial strength chemicals allow us to professionally wash houses without the risk of damage and with 100% satisfaction. Between the cost of equipment rental, inadequate chemical, and the immense amount of time and labor its already costing so much!
