Lake Tawakoni is the major water source for the city of Dallas, and Lake Tawakoni RV Campground is the home of a quiet, peaceful RV camp in Texas. The park sits on a beautiful preserve where fishing, boating and bird watching are popular pastimes. Crappie, catfish, striped bass, and sand bass are some of the main species at this RV campground in Texas. Many guests take up the sport of fishing for the first time at our campground.
Located in Rains County, the bald eagle capital of Texas, Lake Tawakoni RV Campground is the destination for many who come to the area for its spectacular bird viewing opportunities. The nearby city of Emory has cafés, grocery stores, clinics and drug stores that are convenient for visitors. People come from all over the state to visit nearby Canton and First Monday, the largest flea market in the world, held the first week of each month.
Lake Tawakoni RV Campground is in a rural part of the state, about 65 miles east of Dallas and 30 miles from Greenville. Come and discover this tranquil RV camp in Texas' northeast region.
This is one of the worst campgrounds we have ever stayed at, in fact it was so bad that we left after being there for 1 day. The conditions of the paths, roads and pavement in the sites is awful, tons of potholes etc. The lake front is not useable and is completely overgrown. You can't actually get down to the water from a waterfront site. Run down is an understatement.

As I travel to more Thousand Trails campground, I become more disappointed. The lake is beautiful but it's difficult to fish from due to overgrown lilly pads and brush. There are no lights on at the bathrooms exterior at night and they are absolutely full of spider webs so you run into them as you try to enter, once you enter the A/C doesn't work and it's over 100 degrees and shower heads are terrible plus showers are dirty. There is no store to even get a drink of water, no adult activities on weekends, massive potholes everywhere. It is very very sad that they attempt to sell upgrades and memberships but can't keep these gorgeous acres in better shape. I'm not giving up, just going to see if I can find a park staff team that steps up and takes pride in their work and try to find a Thousand Trails that is worth the $7500 membership I paid for in full.
