How old do I have to be to get my driver's license in Connecticut?
You must be 16 years old or older to get your driver's license in Connecticut.
New Drivers under 18 years old that take the Full Driver Education Bundle must hold a permit for 120 days before testing for a license.
New Drivers under 18 years old that take the 8 Hour Safe Driving Course must hold a permit for 180 days before testing for a license.
New Drivers 18 and over must hold a permit for 90 days, regardless of the program you enroll in.
What is the minimum driving school requirement to get a license in Connecticut?
All new drivers, regardless of age, must take at least an 8 hour driving class with a State Approved driving school to be eligible to test for your driver's license.
Is the classroom portion of driver's ed online, in person, or either?
The Next Street offers fully online, virtual classes, taught live on Zoom by a certified driving instructor/educator.
How long does it take to complete driver's ed at The Next Street?
Our Full Driver Education Bundle classroom portion usually takes 8 weeks to complete, but a student can complete it sooner. The 8 Hour Safe Driving Course usually takes 2 weeks.
Do you need a learner's permit to start classes at The Next Street?
You do not need a learner's permit to begin the classroom portion, but it is required for any in car driving lessons.
What do I need to bring to my driving lesson?
Students must have their physical plastic learner’s permit with them for every Driving Lesson. No photocopies allowed.
Open toed and open heeled shoes (even crocs) are not permitted- please wear appropriate footwear, we recommend sneakers.
Make sure you have your corrective lenses (contacts or glasses) if indicated on your permit.
Please note: Students that arrive without these items will not be able to drive and will be subject to our $175 no show fee.
