Diamond Girls has some beautiful pieces, but I wouldn’t work with them in a custom design. Communication was spotty and almost always initiated by me. It took six months to design a ring and have it ready. No one told me when it arrived or gave me a chance to approve the etchings. Instead of etchings, filigree ripples and chevrons were added without my approval. The style of the ring is art deco, neither of those design elements are remotely art deco, and it was filigree, not etchings. The cut was even wrong: emerald instead of radiant.
After six months, I expressed frustration with the lack of communication and doing things without my approval. The response was passive aggressive and dismissive. This is my ring. I don’t really care if you’re in love with it. You’re not wearing it.
My text: I'm really upset Kayla. How are ripples art deco? None of the line work from the pendant made it in.
The milgraine isn't on the bezel.
No one sent me a mock up.
I'm not sure I trust your designer to do it right at this point.
Their response: I am so glad we are on the same page with this... I was just talking with Natalie and Lisa and we had all agreed that maybe we aren't the jeweler for you. Natalie and Lisa have decades of experience in true art deco pieces and they both were in love with the finished product. It seems like we are all on different pages, and maybe you would feel more comfortable finding someone who can see your vision.
So after months of time and investment, they just told me I don’t know what I’m talking about and am lacking in taste.
So to sum up:
1. The cut of the stone was wrong (emerald instead of radiant).
2. The design included elements I never approved (ripples and chevrons that aren’t remotely Art Deco).
3. The filigree replaced the etching we discussed, and I asked about that specific detail on May 9th and got no answer.
4. No one sent me a mockup before the final ring was completed.
5. Milgrain was missing from the bezel, despite my request.
6. And I had to continually follow up just to get basic updates.
I went to Molinelli’s in Pocatello and had the perfect ring ordered in 3 weeks exactly how I wanted it, with great suggestions to make it even better than my original design. And they were great to reach out to me at every step along the way instead of me always asking for an update only to find out nothing had been done.
As to Diamond girl's response below, I've included a screen shot in which they describe me as, "...you are so patient while I get his design down for you!!!"
I did not request a lengthy design process for funds.
I've also included a screen shot showing the gaps in time when no one answered my messages. But please, continue to explain how I'm "impossible" to work with.
I was not happy with my experience with them. After their response, I'm so disappointed. They could have used this as a chance to learn and grow. Instead, they dismissed my experience, gaslight my valid concerns, and undermined my effort, taste, and credibility. It's condescending and arrogant.
Do better.
