Comfortable, clean rooms; friendly staff. Also a very central location to both east and west side of LA. Fitness room is small but has a treadmill, bike and weights. Nice central courtyard that the rooms open on to.

Imagine your favorite, out-of-the-way motel somewhere along the California coast or on a dreamy mid-Atlantic inlet. The furniture is a bit dated. The amenities are modest. The staff is small in number but big on attentiveness. Some employees tend to the property for over 30 years. All these combine into one word: charm. Take that charm and place it at the center of West LA's Pico Robertson district. Within your 10,000 steps you can find restaurants, coffee shops, and gift stores. Within 15 minute drives you can get to Santa Monica, Farmers Market, and museums. I know: I've stayed here at least 10 times, and enjoy each stay.

Avoid this hotel – unsafe and misleading Bathrooms are pitch dark with only a ticking wind-up light that shuts off after a few minutes. My door wouldn’t even close properly, and I had to block it with a chair. The whole building is dark and eerie, walls are paper-thin, and housekeeping never showed up. Elevator reeked of urine, and you can only get back in at night if staff happen to be at the desk. Walls are so thin you can hear in any nearby room: snoring, typing on a cell phone, coughing, every word of every conversation, toilet flushing, bags crinkling, ring tones ringing, every sound from the tv. Plus, staff will place ever single guest next to each other all on the same floor but leave every other floor completely empty. What a nightmare. Easily my worst hotel stay—pictures online are completely misleading. Spend your money elsewhere.
