We stayed here last night while in town for the Celtics game and were really looking forward to a relaxing night following the game, especially since we specifically booked a room with a fireplace. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from start to finish. When we checked in, we were told we had been “upgraded” to a different room — but the upgrade didn’t include a fireplace. I explained that we had booked this particular room because of the fireplace, and at first, the front desk said none were available. After some back and forth, they ended up giving us the room we had originally reserved, which I appreciated, though it didn’t set a great first impression. After the Celtics game, we came back to the hotel and asked to have the fireplace lit — again, the entire reason we chose this hotel and room. The woman at the front desk assured me it would be lit within 20 minutes. I told her we were going to the on-site restaurant, 24 North, while we waited. She said, “No problem — go ahead, he’ll still come up and light it.” We were at the restaurant for about 40 minutes, then headed back to the room. On the way, we noticed what looked like an altercation in the lobby and heard someone mention that security was being called. We didn’t want to get involved, so we just went upstairs, assuming the fireplace had been taken care of like promised. Unfortunately, it hadn’t been — no one had come by. I tried calling the front desk with no answer. About 20 minutes later, someone finally picked up and said, “My shift just started.” I explained that we’d been promised the fire would be lit but that it never happened. At that point, we were ready to go to bed, so I told them not to bother sending anyone, but honestly, I expected at least an apology or some acknowledgment. There was none. The next morning, we tried ordering room service, which went straight to an answering machine — in Spanish. I called the restaurant directly and they told us room service will call us. They followed through and they were apologetic and very kind. To be fair, the room itself was clean and the location couldn’t have been better. But we booked this hotel specifically for the fireplace experience — something we didn’t get despite multiple assurances. The lack of follow-through and the poor communication were really disappointing, especially at the rate we paid. Even when we checked out, no one asked how our stay was or seemed interested in hearing about any issues. As we were simply told, “You can just leave, no need to check out.” All in all, the location and cleanliness were positives, but the service and attention to detail fell short. Between the Celtics loss and this experience, it was definitely not the cozy night we were hoping for.

Sent my parents for a two night getaway. They arrived to have no TV service. ONE tissue left in the box. No phone service to call down to hotel concierge to inquire. The balcony attached would not even open. Other guests also in the lobby complaining of same tv and phone service issues. Another complaining no towels in their room. And yet another to have no hot water to their shower. My mom kindly mentioned on her way back to the room there is still no phone cord for the phone. Concierge responded to these matters with barely any care. Specifically to my mom that she doesn’t even need a phone to her room and to use her cell phone…. Excuse me? I am severely disappointed in the choice In hotel I made as a gift to my parents. Let everyone know when looking to choose any other hotel in the area. They have not even give a discount or alleviated any issues with true apology or even an upgrade to make up for these flaws. My parents are just a number as another visitor to the beautiful city of Boston. Choose any neighboring hotel. I ensure your outcome will be better. As will my parents next time. I will continue to spread the negative word. The Bostonian Hotel Boston- you have your work cut out for you. Do better. Treat people better. Fix it.

Hotel is very central, but has a "dated luxury" feel to it and misses some basics. Old, worn, and smelly carpets; scruffy walls; windows that don't quite close fully, letting in street noise; empty fridge instead of a minibar.... What did it for me was the lukewarm water at some times of day (also low pressure) and the broken WiFi. The latter is a deal killer, particularly for a business trip. A card-activated switch for all the lights in the room would have also been nice for both convenience and energy efficiency. Would not stay here again unfortunately.

Location aside, I would not recommend staying at this hotel. Although it has an antique, rustic charm, especially when booking a room with a fireplace, the interactions with the staff completely negate the appeal. The staff were rude, rarely made eye contact during interactions, and seemed too lackadaisical when asked for updates. For the price and the additional fees charged just for staying at the property, I would have much rather stayed at the Hilton Canopy next door. I wish this had been an isolated incident, but other guests also mentioned that they were unhappy and considering shortening their stay.

We booked an “upgraded” room that was anything but an upgrade. A mini fridge falling apart, they stated they were renovating and offered to bring another mini fridge after the fact. It’s pretty tacky to have a broken mini fridge in an upgraded room at that cost. The balcony door handle was damaged upon arrival, we had trouble opening and closing the door and I hurt my finger opening it. I notified the front desk to fix it immediately before someone gets hurt. Again, the rooms at the cost should be top tier before a guest arrives and is placed in the room. Lukewarm shower water. Small roaches in the bathroom on the last night. Poor housekeeping. We had to request for our bed to be made. We left early and came back in the later afternoon with our room not even touched multiple days. I’ve never been to a hotel where my room wasn’t freshened up what I got back. I notified the front desk on all the issues, I was offered $35 back on bill. A slap in the face. This hotel is below average. The location was the only reliable part.
