On top of that, their mowing and monthly maintenance service has been consistently top-notch. Hunter and his team are professional, reliable, and take great pride in their work. How often should I water my new plants from a landscape installation?
You should water new plants twice a day for the first 14 days after their installation. For perennials and shrubs, we recommend watering for about 20-30 seconds at a time. The best time to water your plants is early morning and/or late evening. In a particularly dry season, don’t be afraid to water your plants even more! Not watering your plants on hot summer days will result in heat stress, making it more likely for your plants to die.
How often should I water my newly installed trees?
Trees need a lot more water than shrubs to survive. You should water your newly installed trees for about 1-2 minutes twice a day. As mentioned before, be sure to pay more attention to your trees during dry periods.
How often should I water my lawn after a lawn renovation?
You should water your newly installed lawn 1-2 times a day within the first few weeks of seeding. Water your lawn enough to ensure the top layer of soil is consistently moist. It is the most beneficial to water lawns either in the early morning or late evening. For larger yards, break the lawn into zones and water each zone for around 20-30 minutes. Remember, frequent watering will allow your seed to germinate faster, giving you an amazing green yard! Until the seeded area is showing a dense, green growth, do not allow your yard to dry out!
What should I do to treat the moles in my yard?
The two most effective ways of controlling moles are to either physically remove them by using mole traps or to use a bait that attracts them. There are commercially sold baits that are proven to be effective in the form of a worm.
What is the proper mow height for a healthy lawn?
The best mow height for a healthy lawn is to keep your grass between 3-3.5 inches in the spring and fall. During the summer months, it is better to mow grass at a height of 3.5-4 inches. This allows the leaf area of the grass to shade the ground. Another trick to follow is the “one-third rule,” which instructs you to never cut more than one-third of your grass’s blade at one time.
What is the difference between landscaping and hardscaping?
Landscaping refers to exterior installations that include plants, lawns, or other natural elements. Some examples of landscaping include installing new plants in a flower bed or seeding a new lawn. Hardscaping refers to installations that include solid elements such as pavers or retaining wall blocks. Popular examples of hardscaping include patios, walkways, retaining walls, and even pools!
How can I prevent weeds in my landscape beds?
There are multiple strategies to use when it comes to weed prevention. First, you can pull the weeds in your beds. However, this method is usually labor intensive and can even encourage more weeds to grow. For many weeds, roots break off when pulled, leaving the root system intact underground, allowing more weeds to grow that are often bigger and more aggressive.
You can also install weed prevention fabric in your beds which prevents weeds from growing up through the fabric. Landscape fabric is often installed before rock or stone installations as it greatly reduces the weeds.
Utilizing herbicides is another great way to prevent weeds. Pre-emergent weed control can be applied in the spring for the prevention of annual weeds. Spot-spraying with an herbicide labeled to be used in the landscape is another way to control weeds during the growing season.
TD offers monthly property visits utilizing herbicide and weed removal techniques which can aid in stopping those pesky weeds from growing back!
How often should I mow my lawn?
We typically recommend mowing your lawn once a week during the peak growing season. However, during the dryer weeks or months, it is best to watch your lawn and only mow when necessary. As mentioned before, remember to follow the “one-third rule,” which instructs you to never cut more than one-third of your grass’s blade at one time. This may require more frequent mowing.
Why is fertilizing my lawn a good idea?
Fertilizer provides the essential nutrients that your lawn needs to grow strong and healthy. Fertilizing your lawn helps to promote lush, green growth and aids in disease resistance. A well-fertilized lawn is less likely to be damaged by pests and diseases.

How often should I mulch my landscape beds?
To keep your landscape looking fresh, we recommend mulching your beds once a year. However, some clients prefer mulching more often to ensure that their beds are always looking their best!
When is the best time to prune my plants?
Proper pruning is dependent upon the plant’s growth and time of bloom. Heavy pruning should occur during a plant’s dormant season which typically happens in the late winter or early spring. Typically, it is best to prune before the plant’s new growth! However, it is also recommended to prune your shrubs lightly between late spring and early fall to keep your plants shaped appropriately.
