My wife and I had the opportunity to experience an omakase style dinner in a speakeasy-style restaurant and it truly was an experience.
We were welcomed by Tashon, the restaurant’s coordinator, who explained what the evening what we are in for and took our drink order. Once the dining area was ready, we were escorted into another room where Chef Poon took great care of us.
We were served a nigiri-style course, with each piece individually prepared right in front of us. The chef made the experience interactive, and we had a fantastic time. I would absolutely consider doing an omakase-style dinner again.
Chef Poom, Mackenna, and Raul were excellent. The food was amazing and the service was top class. I strongly recommend asking for Chef Poom. He is incredibly sweet and a joy to speak to. Mackenna was also a great host and made us feel welcomed throughout our experience. Raul was also a great bartender and served us with a smile. Will fs come back
I tried Sushi by Bou River North because of the aggressive social media advertising. I took advantage of the 12-meal omakase at 5pm. By downloading their app, I also got a free hand roll.
My experience with Sushi by Bou River North was mixed. The entrance was hard to find. There is only a little sign that marks the entrance. Then you have to be buzzed in and go downstairs. The restaurant gives off speakeasy vibes.
You wait in a room, with tables that are way too low, and can buy drinks. You wait until your time before being seated at the sushi bar.
The omakase was good. The fish was quality. And the sushi chef was personable. However, the courses themselves were kind of basic compared to other omakase I have had before. My favorite course was the land and sea that had Australian wagyu and sea urchin.
The best part of the experience was the staff. They were simply amazing and attentive. But we also were the only 2 people in the restaurant at that time. The worst part of the experience is that I left feeling hungry and had to go down the block for an Italian beef. I have never had this problem with omakase before.

Omakase Sushi Bou on Wells is such a hidden gem! The 1-hour omakase dinner is amazing—super casual, almost like a speakeasy, and for just $100 I had the 17-course menu. 🥰
They also offer a 12-course option that’s a bit cheaper, but for me the 17 is perfect since I love sushi—it’s never enough, and I left completely satisfied! The sushi is fresh, innovative, and beautifully prepared.
The vibe is cozy with good lighting, comfy seats, and great energy. I had the lychee martini 🍸 which was delicious and paired perfectly with the food. Chef Poom was fantastic and really made the experience special, and Captain Juan was super nice and welcoming.
Honestly, it’s way better than any other restaurant in the area. I live in the neighborhood and this is without a doubt my go-to spot. Easy to book since they have resy slots every hour. Perfect for going solo, with friends, or on a date. Highly recommend! 🍣✨
