How do I apply for an HVAC license in Texas?
To apply for an HVAC license in Texas, submit a completed application along with the $115 fee to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). You'll need to meet the qualification requirements and successfully pass the required examinations.
What documents do I need to re-apply for my license?
When re-applying for your license, you'll need to submit a completed application with your experience and employment documentation, as well as the $115 license fee. TDLR requires 48 months of supervised practical experience in ACR-related work within the preceding 72 months. This experience can be from Texas or another state.
What is the difference between a Class A and a Class B license?
A Class A license allows you to work on HVAC systems of any size, while a Class B license restricts you to systems up to 25 tons or heating equipment rated up to 1.5 million BTUs/hour. Your license will typically be issued in the format: Title/Class/Number/Endorsement code, such as TACL/A/000000/C.
How do I know if I qualify for the ACR Contractor's exam?
To qualify for the ACR Contractor's exam, you must be at least 18 years old and provide proof of 48 months of experience within the preceding six years. If your application is approved, TDLR will notify PSI (the Texas exam provider), and you'll receive a postcard confirming your eligibility to take the exam. You can then schedule your examination and pay the exam fee directly to PSI.
What is the difference between Environmental or Commercial endorsement?
Environmental Air Conditioning focuses on human comfort requirements, including central air conditioning and heating. Commercial Refrigeration is designed to control temperature and/or humidity in specific spaces not intended for human comfort, such as computer rooms or food freezers. Process Cooling or Heating involves controlling temperature, humidity, or cleanliness for production requirements or equipment operation. Commercial Refrigeration/Process Heating and Cooling is limited to coolers, freezers, ice machines, and equipment that provides temperature and humidity controls.
How do I add an endorsement to my license?
To add an endorsement to your license, complete form ACR003 (Notice of Change and Duplicate License Request) and include a $25 fee.
