I was disappointed with this company. I asked them to come and fix my air conditioning and they didn't help me at all. They only came to put in refrigerant and knew that it was leaking and even then they put it in just to charge for it, not to say right away that there was no solution. I don't recommend it. They charge too much and they don't help you solve anything.

Technicians from Starnes replaced our attic gas hot water heater several years ago. The men were polite and did a great job; taking the old unit out and the new unit into place, through a second floor ceiling port without pull-down stairs!

I had a failing AC unit towards the end of summer. I had an irregular set up in my home as far as the air handler goes. The owner Paul Starnes came out himself to inspect and they very quickly got me on the schedule and replace my whole system. For a great price! Didn’t even have to bother getting a second opinion! On top of that, they did an amazing job installing the unit! The team of installers were great as well! Very polite and knowledgeable!

Team did an incredible job overhauling our full ductwork, even despite having an extremely tight crawlspace & terrible setup prior! Thanks to them, we now have a higher functioning system, and our quality of life has improved through higher interior comfort. Very happy with the project and even happier w/the work completed and professionalism of the team throughout. Will repeat any HVAC work for sure w/Starnes Mechanical moving forward!
Frequently Asked Questions About Starnes Mechanical
How much experience do you have?
Our team has accumulated over two decades of experience in the heating and air conditioning industry.
Are you insured?
Yes, we are. Our company holds full licensing and insurance coverage for your peace of mind.
Why should I choose Starnes Mechanical?
As a local, family-operated business, we're committed to delivering exceptional heating and cooling services. Moreover, you'll often find one of our owners personally overseeing service calls.
How often should I change my air filters?
Generally, we advise changing air filters monthly. However, this can vary based on your system's usage and the manufacturer's specific recommendations.
What are the signs that my HVAC system needs repair?
Key indicators include strange noises, decreased airflow, higher energy costs, and uneven temperature distribution. If you notice these issues, our HVAC company in Newport News, VA is ready to provide efficient and effective repair services.
How can I improve the efficiency of my HVAC system?
Based on our experience, regular maintenance, addressing duct leaks, and installing a programmable thermostat can enhance efficiency. The US Department of Energy and ENERGY STAR suggest setting a comfortable daytime temperature and increasing it by 7F when you're not at home.
Do I need to replace my entire HVAC system if one part breaks?
Not necessarily. In many cases, replacing the malfunctioning component is sufficient. The decision largely depends on the age and overall condition of your system.
How do I know if I need a tune-up or maintenance?
If you're experiencing system issues or it's been some time since your last maintenance check, we recommend scheduling a tune-up with our team to prevent potential breakdowns.
What's the difference between a routine maintenance visit and an emergency service call?
Routine maintenance is a preventative measure scheduled in advance, while emergency service calls address urgent, unexpected issues. For emergencies, we encourage you to contact us immediately.
Are there ways to reduce my energy bills besides upgrading my HVAC system?
Indeed, there are. Addressing air leaks, improving insulation, and utilizing ceiling fans can all contribute to reducing your energy consumption and associated costs.
