I’m honestly disgusted by what I witnessed yesterday at the Sportsman’s Warehouse firearms department. While I was shopping for ammo, I saw a Black man politely ask an associate if he could take a quick picture of a barcode, not the gun, just the barcode. The guy was nothing but respectful and calm the whole time. Until John Pushed all his buttons The associate, whose name was John, started treating him like a suspect. He accused him of possibly trying to buy a gun for someone else and even followed him around while he looked at other items. When the customer asked for his name, John told him he probably couldn’t even spell it and then insulted him saying he couldn’t afford to buy anything. Even after that, the customer still told him, “I hope you have a better day, John.” That’s straight up racial profiling and it was disgusting to watch. The customer did absolutely nothing wrong and handled himself with more class than John did. This kind of behavior should never be acceptable anywhere, especially in a place that sells firearms. I won’t be coming back to this location and honestly John should be fired for the way he acted.

I want to begin by saying that this review is not intended to reflect negatively on the entire store or its management. The manager, Albert, was very respectful, professional, and understanding when handling my concern. He took the time to listen and made every effort to address the situation appropriately, and I truly appreciate that. However, my experience with an associate in the firearms department named John was very disappointing. While he was assisting me, I politely asked if I could take a picture of the barcode on a firearm, not the firearm itself, so I could reference it later. John told me that doing so was illegal and went on to say that I was under suspicion of trying to buy a firearm to give to someone else. As a law-abiding customer who was simply trying to make a legitimate purchase, I found his comments unprofessional, disrespectful, and completely unwarranted. The assumption he made felt personally offensive, and I could not help but feel that his remarks may have been influenced by my race. Because of that experience, I chose not to move forward with my purchase that day. I hope this review encourages the store to provide additional training for staff on professionalism, communication, and bias awareness. Every customer deserves to be treated with fairness and respect regardless of background. Follow-Up: I also want to mention that the associate, John, made an uncalled-for comment implying that I might not be able to afford the firearm I was interested in. That was extremely disrespectful and unprofessional. On top of that, when I asked for his name so I could let the manager know about the situation, he mocked me and said I probably wouldn’t even be able to spell it. I don’t want this review to reflect on the entire store, because the manager, Albert, was very respectful and handled the issue professionally. But John’s attitude and comments were completely out of line and made the experience very uncomfortable. I also want to clarify that there is no Colorado or federal law that makes it illegal to take a photograph inside a gun store, especially when the photo is not of the firearm itself. In my case, I wasn’t trying to photograph the gun at all I only asked to take a quick picture of the barcode and price tag so I could remember the information for later. There is nothing in state or federal law that prohibits that. While a store has every right to enforce its own no-photography policy, that is a business rule, not a legal one. Instead of politely explaining that, the associate wrongly told me it was “illegal,” which came across as both misleading and disrespectful to a customer who was simply trying to stay informed.

The older gentleman in the firearms department was very helpful and kind. He was knowledgeable and helped me. He allowed me to take my time and look at the various scopes without rushing or becoming impatient. Thumbs up 👍

I have spent ten to fifteen thousand dollars at Sportsman's over the last fifteen years. If I could give zero stars, I would! Walked up to the counter when no other customers were there asked to look at a 400 legend. The old man behind the counter commented on "How if I lost my ammo or forgot it that I would never find it at a mom and pop shop". I stated that I was going on a white tail hunt in Ohio and there is only five cartridges you're allowed to hunt with one of them being 400 legend. I know you have this gun in stock I said I saw it online. I am 6'9", and would like to see if it fits my frame. He acted like he didn't hear me.Walked down the counter and just stood there. Seven minutes past another customer came up and he helped them with a smile. I continue to patiently wait right in front of the gun I was looking at, and if it would have fit me I would have purchased! He gets done with that customer and still doesn't come over to help me helps yet another customer that came walking up! As I'm still patiently waiting not moving just standing right in front of the gun I would like to see and possibly purchase. Another gentleman came behind the counter and stood with his shoulder against the wall. 45 minutes, I waited before I walked out. Slow and rude. The job of a salesman is to put all biased aside and help the customer in any way possible! Might never go back!

My husband and I had a very smooth experience with Mindy. She helped us with the purchasing of a firearm and background check. Mindy was very helpful and patient. Her customer service skills were great and we left with no issues even though we had some barriers with firearm restrictions. Nonetheless, she seemed very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions . We will definitely be going back for future purchases.
