The Smith Family Homestead was the first Nauvoo house of the Joseph and Emma Smith family. It was owned and operated by Community of Christ until 2024, and is now maintained by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In August 2025, we visited the Smith Family Homestead in Nauvoo, Illinois. The Smith Family Homestead is part of the LDS Church's Nauvoo Historic Sites. Joseph and Emma Smith lived in this home when they first moved to Nauvoo in 1839, and they lived there about 4 years. The original home was built before Joseph Smith arrived, Joseph Smith built the new kitchen addition, and Joseph's son, Joseph III, made another addition after his father's death. It is interesting to see how people lived in the past and to learn more about the lives of notable historical figures. The Nauvoo Historic Sites are an amazing place to visit, and there is no cost to tour any of these buildings.

Fun to explore and see how much growth went into this home from its early days to what it ended up being for the Smith home.
