- KCKiley CantrellFeb 25, 20251.0these people are the most incompetent business if you miss a day they will restart your 12 months and charge you for every little thing, you cannot get anyone to remove this device they will make it nearly impossible to get anything done through them and then will try to charge you with theft even though you paid for your car towed to their midas/smart start despite having the car feet away with a technician on the premises. My partner has lost 1 job and several other money making opportunities because despite getting a ride to a mechanic's shop to retrieve his car, noone at Smartstart would answer the phone to give a lockout code. after waiting on hold for an hour he finally had to leave his vehicle and have it towed to MIDAS to have their equiment removed. Upon which he was notified by MIDAS that they refused to uninstall their equipment and moved his vehicle off the premises to be towed because they supposedly don't have room for it on their lot, They threaten to accuse him of theft of property despite having their equipment feet away and a technician on premises. They are by far the worst services I have ever received from any company. They are bottom feeders that refuse to work with anyone despite their incompetence and outright refusal to do their jobs. It's not worth having a license imo if you are forced to deal with this amount of belligerent uncooperative greed. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

What do I need to bring to my installation?
Bring a photo ID and proof of residence in the form of a document verifying your address. You may also be asked to bring any documents that pertain to your case, depending on the state in which you or your program are located. How do I know if Smart Start's devices are compliant with my program?
Smart Start is a NHTSA certified Ignition Interlock provider, so we’re able to meet all of the alcohol monitoring authority’s requirements to ensure that you’re compliant within your state or county.
How often does my Ignition Interlock Device need to be serviced?

What do I need for removal?
Requirements will differ by state, but generally your state authority must grant removal authorization before you can have your IID removed. You will then need to fill out the Device Removal Request form on our website and upload any official documentation that may be required to authorize the removal.
Do I need an Interlock Device on all of my vehicles?
Some states will require that you have an Ignition Interlock Device installed on all cars registered to you, but most states will just require that whichever vehicle you drive have an IID installed. Check with your state authority to see if you will need an IID installed on all of your cars.

How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my Ignition Interlock?
Check with your state authority to see if you are allowed to unplug your Ignition Interlock before doing so.
Can someone else drive my car?
Yes, but whoever is driving the vehicle MUST take a breath test and pass before driving. Any failed test will still be your responsibility.
