The management seems completely disorganized, and customer service is practically non-existent. Repeatedly, I have faced issues with appointments—either they don’t honor the scheduled time, or they cancel appointments at the last minute without notifying me. Worse yet, I’m now receiving collection calls for appointments that were canceled by the company itself. They set up mandatory calibration appointments for my vehicle, only to overbook and create a situation where I’m left scrambling to reschedule, or worse, get locked out of my car. The entire system feels like it’s set up to fail the customer rather than help. Trying to resolve issues through their customer service or complaints department is another nightmare. Expect to be on hold for hours, with no guarantee that anyone will actually answer your call. It seems like they go out of their way to make it as difficult as possible for customers to get any help. If you're considering using this company, do yourself a favor and call their customer helpline before making any decisions. That alone will show you just how unresponsive and unprofessional they are. I wouldn’t recommend Smart Start Interlock Incorporated to anyone who values their time or peace of mind

What do I need to bring to my installation?
Bring a photo ID and proof of residence in the form of a document verifying your address. You may also be asked to bring any documents that pertain to your case, depending on the state in which you or your program are located. How do I know if Smart Start's devices are compliant with my program?
Smart Start is a NHTSA certified Ignition Interlock provider, so we’re able to meet all of the alcohol monitoring authority’s requirements to ensure that you’re compliant within your state or county.
How often does my Ignition Interlock Device need to be serviced?

What do I need for removal?
Requirements will differ by state, but generally your state authority must grant removal authorization before you can have your IID removed. How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my Ignition Interlock?
Check with your state authority to see if you are allowed to unplug your Ignition Interlock before doing so.
Can someone else drive my car?
Yes, but whoever is driving the vehicle MUST take a breath test and pass before driving. Any failed test will still be your responsibility.
