I had a set appointment time, when I show up on time, the door is locked and no one is inside. I had received a call TEN minutes prior to my appointment time while i was already driving to get here, so of course i would not be able to answer. Guy said he was calling to confirm the appointment. Why are you calling TEN minutes before the appointment to confirm if I’ll be there?? I set an appointment didn’t I?? Why is no one on location???

This is a lie. Horrible service, Worst experience ever. Smart Start said this location was open. I was supposed to have my calibration done on 1/15. I arrived at 5pm since they said it would be open until 5:30pm. When I get to the location it is closed permanently. Now I’m locked out of my vehicle. Have to pay the fee to get the unlock code which the representative refused to waive, even though it’s not my fault…and I received a violation from my probation officer because they have nothing to do with that other than to receive the reports.

Smart sent me to a place close home and I appreciate that, but the place was not open and I had the call the number for the place and connected to another shop but they were nice to send technicians to the address I was at. The place wasn’t really set up one of the Tech Steven was nice the other whom I didn’t get name was very short like he was put out for coming to that location and seemed in a hurry to get me outta of there. Then I was charged twice on the card for the unit and then hit with a 200 install . Regardless I’m in a situation needing this device but still a customer. I really didn’t get much training on the device except the video and was told you gotta blow twice a day then in a hurry during initial sequence ok blow and start and pretty much watch the garage doors as you drive out blah blah. I really hope I don’t have to deal with these two techs every month when I take it in for calibration.Other than that the agents I spoke with on the phone were professional and polite.

If any other documents are required, one of our friendly Program Advisors will let you know.
How do I know if Smart Start's devices are compliant with my program?

You will then need to fill out the Device Removal Request form on our website and upload any official documentation that may be required to authorize the removal.
Do I need an Interlock Device on all of my vehicles?
Some states will require that you have an Ignition Interlock Device installed on all cars registered to you, but most states will just require that whichever vehicle you drive have an IID installed. Check with your state authority to see if you will need an IID installed on all of your cars.
Does the Interlock Device mess up or hurt my vehicle?
No, Smart Start's Ignition Interlock Device (IID) will not hurt your vehicle in any way. Our service technicians are the best in the business and are able to install on all vehicles, even hybrids and electric cars!
How long does it take to install an Ignition Interlock Device?
The time required for an Interlock installation will depend on your type of vehicle but we recommend blocking off at least two hours to make sure you are prepared to not miss any other appointments or work.

It’s easy to find the nearest Smart Start location on Google or on our online service center search tool. Go to the Locations tab on our website and enter your zip code into the search bar.
How do I use an Interlock Device?
Using a Smart Start Ignition Interlock is easy! When prompted, blow into the device for a few seconds until you hear a click that signals the test is complete.

Exact IID prices will vary by state, but you can find our current pricing on our Ignition Interlock Cost page on our website. Our expert Program Advisors are also available to provide you a custom quote and schedule your installation today!
How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my Ignition Interlock?
Check with your state authority to see if you are allowed to unplug your Ignition Interlock before doing so.
Can someone else drive my car?
Yes, but whoever is driving the vehicle MUST take a breath test and pass before driving. Any failed test will still be your responsibility.
