Had an appointment to have this system installed on my son's car at 10:30am Friday. We got there 15 minutes early and the door was locked. After we start heading back to the car the guy comes out and says pull around to the back. Once around back the language the guy used was vulgar and he used it as if it was his every day language. I finally had to leave his presence as it was offensive. He obviously cared nothing for the shirt I was wearing which had John 3:16 on the front along with a picture of Calvary and on the back said "Thank You JESUS". After the work was done, his language did not improve. The battery was dead on the car where he left the key on with the lights on, there was a screw in the floorboard and the bezel around the steering wheel now will not stay together (see pics). Also the steering wheel now scrubs the bezel when turning the wheel. This place is VERY unprofessional. Also when I was on the phone with the operator setting up the appointment, I was told the installation and first month was free but after it was installed the guy said that because my son was receiving assistance with the monthly fee, he did not qualify for the first month free. After this visit, I can see why they are saying the installation and first month are free because of the verbal abuse you have to deal with and the unprofessionalism. Would highly recommend seeking service elsewhere

Well what initially started as an ok experience turned out to be a 4 hour tow truck wait at the gas station just a few miles down the road. After getting the device installed, the guy asked me to turn the car on to make sure I was comfortable doing it for the first time. The display on the interlock device was not working. I blew and he told me to wait for the device to tell me to blow, I told him there was no words on the screen. He said, that's odd, and looked at it, messed with the wires and got it to work. Thought everything was ok, drove off decided to stop for gas and turned off the car. Never asked me to blow after turning it off like he told me it would, come to find out the display was gone again. Tried doing every step to turn it back on but was unable to because there was no display. Disconnected and connected the wire just like the troubleshooting said but no luck. Called the place back but unfortunately it was already pass 4 and they only open 2 days a week. So no luck there. Called the 800 help line to be put on hold for 1 hours and after that hour the call dropped. I'm sure I'll have to pay for them to get it up and running with a good device when I take it back. Not a good experience at all

First class! I had heard of some issues with this Smart Start location in the past but decided to give them a shot since they are so close to me. It was a great decision. It’s obvious that those concerns I heard of were of issues long past and a new leaf has been turned over with new staff. Nick was first class in his knowledge of the installation and operation of the interlock device. Nick was extremely friendly, courteous and informative. Every vehicle is different as far as the install goes but Nick made sure he had all the info he needed for my particular vehicle and got it done even though everything was not easily accessible due to the make of the vehicle. His explanation of the product and how to use it was informative and thorough. This is definitely service with a smile. It’s obvious that Nick values his customers and wants to make sure that they are satisfied and that they recommend him. You don’t expect that from the installer, those are usually concerns for the management level of the company. I’d recommend Nick and Smart Start to anyone without reservation.

This young man was on point very friendly and service he explained would take some time and it did about two hours. I know he felt pressure to get it done and yet he was very kind and told me more than once He was there until I got it. How amazing is that? He wanted to know that I understood and knew what was required before he signed off on anything! How great is that? It is huge! Someone that actually cares. wow these folks are worth checking out!

Do I need an Interlock Device on all of my vehicles?
Some states will require that you have an Ignition Interlock Device installed on all cars registered to you, but most states will just require that whichever vehicle you drive have an IID installed. Check with your state authority to see if you will need an IID installed on all of your cars.

Exact IID prices will vary by state, but you can find our current pricing on our Ignition Interlock Cost page on our website. Our expert Program Advisors are also available to provide you a custom quote and schedule your installation today!
How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my Ignition Interlock?
Check with your state authority to see if you are allowed to unplug your Ignition Interlock before doing so.
Can someone else drive my car?
Yes, but whoever is driving the vehicle MUST take a breath test and pass before driving. Any failed test will still be your responsibility.
