The only thing that I have a complaint about is that I was on a program from the court and it was supposed to be no charge to me, but I was asked to leave my card and was charged $75 after they had already spoken to and received the info from the court.
- MDMela DonosoDec 4, 20201.0Had mine installed Monday and I don’t have anything good to say sadly! My appointment was at 10:30, tech did not show up until 11:40 and was very unprofessional. He asked for my debit card to whole before beginning installation, he then added and extra $75 to the total JUST BECAUSE then slid my debit card without even getting my approval or letting me know of this “extra fee”! When I said to him he isn’t supposed just slide someone’s card without authorization he said “well I did”. On my way home the camera kept falling off, next day the device wouldn’t turn on and I was late to work due to this! I do have to say the main office which does not have anything to do with this tech is helpful for the most part but completely not okay to have this type of techs!

What do I need to bring to my interlock device installation?
A photo ID and vehicle registration are preferred but not required.
How do I know if Smart Start's devices are compliant with my program?
Smart Start of Alabama is an NHTSA and state certified ignition interlock provider. We are able to meet all authority requirements to ensure that you’re compliant within your state.
What do I need for interlock device removal?
Please retain any / all forms given to you after applying for your ignition interlock license. For interlock removal, you will need to present a valid driver's license with no interlock restrictions. You may also need to present an official “clearance of suspension” notice or court minutes stating the order to remove the interlock. Once the above has been provided and verified, we simply remove your device.
Do I need an interlock device on all of my vehicles?
No. In Alabama you are required to have an interlock on whichever vehicle you choose to drive.
Does the interlock device mess up or hurt my vehicle?

How does an interlock device work?
When you blow into your ignition interlock device, you're providing a breath test sample to start the vehicle. The device then measures your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You also will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC).
Is an ignition interlock the same as a handheld breathalyzer?
No. While ignition interlocks and handheld breathalyzers both test your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC), an ignition interlock device is installed in a vehicle and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my ignition interlock?
Check with your state authority to see if you are allowed to unplug your ignition interlock before doing so.
Can someone else drive my car?
Yes, but whoever is driving the vehicle MUST take a breath test and pass before driving. Any failed test will still be your responsibility.
