I especially want to thank Johnathan for taking extra time with me to fix a problem I was having by contacting my probation offier. I have never received this much assistance from any other Smart Start Location. I am commited to return to this location to complete my interlock requirements. It's safe to say no one likes to have an interlock device in their car but they made everything a little bit more pleasant today. If you have to go get a device, go to irving! the techs are knowledgable and most importantly customer friendly. Jonathan is AMAZING! Not only did he install when no one else in FW could, he took the time to explain in detail to me the process. Called today about removal and he explained the new rules about the documentation and possible 7 days- unlike any rep I spoke with from the regular call center. he spoke great and listened to my concerns. If I had a business I would hire him. Calling the main nbumber is a night mare- most of ther reps dont speak good english, they are rude, and talks over you while you are speaking. I understand it could be a diffucult job, but if you dont like your job go work somewhere else! no customer deserves to be talked to crazy or yelled at or talked over or told "you dont like it disconnect the call!" The 5 stars is ONLY for Jonthan not Smart start.

Went in with a used vehicle I recently purchased it worked perfectly for two weeks, after the installation of the device I didn’t even make it out the parking lot before my ignition stopped working. Spent over $300 on a tow and have to still get it to the dealers mechanic for diagnostics and repair. Ruined my whole day and my positive vibes.

What do I need to bring to my installation?
Bring a photo ID and proof of residence in the form of a document verifying your address. You may also be asked to bring any documents that pertain to your case, depending on the state in which you or your program are located. If any other documents are required, one of our friendly Program Advisors will let you know.
How do I know if Smart Start's devices are compliant with my program?
Smart Start is a NHTSA certified Ignition Interlock provider, so we’re able to meet all of the alcohol monitoring authority’s requirements to ensure that you’re compliant within your state or county.
How often does my Ignition Interlock Device need to be serviced?
You will be asked to bring your Ignition Interlock Device in for regularly scheduled services. Call our knowledgeable Customer Care Center to find out how often your IID will need to be serviced at (800) 831-3299.
What do I need for removal?
Requirements will differ by state, but generally your state authority must grant removal authorization before you can have your IID removed. You will then need to fill out the Device Removal Request form on our website and upload any official documentation that may be required to authorize the removal.
Do I need an Interlock Device on all of my vehicles?
Some states will require that you have an Ignition Interlock Device installed on all cars registered to you, but most states will just require that whichever vehicle you drive have an IID installed. Check with your state authority to see if you will need an IID installed on all of your cars.
Does the Interlock Device mess up or hurt my vehicle?

How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my Ignition Interlock?
Check with your state authority to see if you are allowed to unplug your Ignition Interlock before doing so.
Can someone else drive my car?
Yes, but whoever is driving the vehicle MUST take a breath test and pass before driving. Any failed test will still be your responsibility.
