- PAPattie AyalaMar 26, 20231.0If I could give zero stars, I would. Worst experience with the SMART START system. I do not recommend to use this to anyone who is trying to keep their license active. SMART START charges too many fees and they false advertise that they have the lowest fees. I was charged $250 to install and the mechanic charged and extra $150 for his time. They don't explain how to use it and just charge extra fees for any small mistake. I recommend you check out other interlock devices before signing up to this one. This mechanic will charge his own extra fees in addition to the "smart start" fees. It's a total disappointment. There are many other interlock companies to choose from.

Bring a photo ID and proof of residence in the form of a document verifying your address. How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.

Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
