- CSChristopher SlocumJul 18, 20255.0good luck getting through on the phone but once you learn the rules, the guy is real nice so calibrations on Monday and Friday only don’t miss it. lunch from noon to one today I don’t know if that’s every day. It’s a one man show. He’s a pretty nice guy. If you think you are driving into an abandoned building you’re at the right place and somehow he’s magically there when he’s supposed to be even though it looks like no one is.

I was FLOORED when my card was charged almost $170.00 at first calibration, so i reached out to customer support who explained to me that it was due to "additional fees" of this and that, plus taxes. I'm not paying $170.00/month, I'm going to find another company to work with, that's ridiculous!!!

- CHChris heyseJun 5, 20251.0After install the car is experincing electilrical issues, upon inspection the installer left wires exposed allowing for the wires to short out if it touches the metal, when addressed with the company they say that the wires are ok to be exposed and are blaming the issues on the battery instead of taking accountability for the issues.

What do I need to bring to my installation?
Bring a photo ID and proof of residence in the form of a document verifying your address. You may also be asked to bring any documents that pertain to your case, depending on the state in which you or your program are located. How do I know if Smart Start's devices are compliant with my program?
Smart Start is a NHTSA certified Ignition Interlock provider, so we’re able to meet all of the alcohol monitoring authority’s requirements to ensure that you’re compliant within your state or county.
How often does my Ignition Interlock Device need to be serviced?

What do I need for removal?
Requirements will differ by state, but generally your state authority must grant removal authorization before you can have your IID removed. You will then need to fill out the Device Removal Request form on our website and upload any official documentation that may be required to authorize the removal.
Do I need an Interlock Device on all of my vehicles?
Some states will require that you have an Ignition Interlock Device installed on all cars registered to you, but most states will just require that whichever vehicle you drive have an IID installed. Check with your state authority to see if you will need an IID installed on all of your cars.

How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my Ignition Interlock?
Check with your state authority to see if you are allowed to unplug your Ignition Interlock before doing so.
Can someone else drive my car?
Yes, but whoever is driving the vehicle MUST take a breath test and pass before driving. Any failed test will still be your responsibility.
