I am writing this as a warning to others, do not pay through the app.
Unfortunately in summit we have no choice in interlock, and really if youre reading this its likely you have to get it.
Here's my story. And this is week 1...
I got my interlock on 6/26/25 the technician was fine but overwhelmed and understaffed. It took an entire day for the interlock to be installed, be prepared to walk 25 min to a bus stop or have another ride.
Now the real bad. Smart start app will over charge you by at least 30-40 dollars a month. The customer service will bounce you back and forth to an automated system if you want to ask about it.
In the end, I had to talk to collections which after being transferred 5 times, told 7 different costs. None matching what was on my lease agreement.
Then when i enrolled in auto pay my app showed an increased charge of 40$ on top of the agreed lease. Removing auto pay the increased charge dropped to 30 over agreed lease After talking to collections i was informed i have a credit 199. This is not reflected on my app at all and not sure where it came from, but after all this ill take it.
Thats why the 3 stars; the last woman I talked to in collections was kind and actually helpful, and the technician just needs help.
But again, do not trust the app, expect to be transferred multiple times and wait for the install. Attached proof of charges on my app.

So the reason for 2 stars is because I have about 6 more months to go with this smart start device in my car. I had a situation with another company before this, not mentioning any names but Intoxilock is by far the most terrible to deal with. They consistently try to rip everyone off multiple times a month and blame their garbage equipment issues on the consumer like they are at fault. So aside from that horrific experience and the multiple times of being stranded in the middle of no where in the middle of winter with little kids freezing with no help from them, I'm a little hesitant to rate smart start higher than 2 stars. So far I've only had one issue with the hand held part of the device failing which doesn't even upset me a whole lot because that's the only problem I've had and I'm hoping it stays that way. People might say that smart start has upset them because of whatever reason but I can tell anyone that has smart starts device has been by far the most reliable and easy to deal with. Trust me, Intoxilock has to be by far the worst most horrific company that does nothing to solve any issues that you have and will have unless they get the money that they like to scam everyone out of right at the exact moment they want it. I've referred a fair amount of people to smart start because my experiences have been pretty consistently good. If you think smart start is horrible, you have no idea how bad some of these other companies can be. At this point I'm staying at 2 stars but will redo this review if all continues to go well until they remove it from my car. I just won't jump the gun and that's not smart starts fault, it's all because of the loosing jobs, being stranded and the agony of never knowing if your car will start or if you'll be stranded with your little ones on the side of the road somewhere freezing. So far, I'm way more than happy that I chose to go with smart start because I have not had to worry about if my car would start or strand me somewhere. I'm actually having another one installed in a company vehicle because I have full confidence that I can rely on smart starts equipment to not leave me stranded at a client's house in their driveway looking like an idiot. Smart starts been great to this point and I wouldn't recommend that anyone take the chance of going through anyone else, especially the Intoxilock company. Hope I can give 5 stars in about six month to smart start but I'm not gonna lie, my experience before them makes me very nervous and I still have my doubts 😅.
