- ACAngi CannonOct 20, 20231.0There is no Smart Start Ignition Interlock at this address. Carolina Services, at 822 N Post Road, Shelby NC, said they’ve called Smart Start many times and told them that SS customers were coming there for service, however it’s not a Smart Start station. I had to drive an hour away just to get there from Rutherfordton just to be sent away. From there the closest Smart Start station is an hour and 15 mins away but they would be closed by the time I got there. I had to drive on home on that lockout code. Now some texting customer service person is telling me I have to get my car towed to a smart start station…again, an hour away…just for calibration. My bill has already been paid for this month. When all I need is for her to give me a service code long enough to get there. It’s horrible. I had no idea smart start would be like that here in NC. It was nothing like this in San Antonio. I don’t get it. It’s not like it’s from an error in blowing, it’s for monthly calibration. I’m beyond confused and so frustrated. Her not caring didn’t help.

What do I need to bring to my installation?
Bring a photo ID and proof of residence in the form of a document verifying your address. How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my Ignition Interlock?
Check with your state authority to see if you are allowed to unplug your Ignition Interlock before doing so.
Can someone else drive my car?
Yes, but whoever is driving the vehicle MUST take a breath test and pass before driving. Any failed test will still be your responsibility.
