The wait times are incredibly long, and they constantly route you to a robotic system that offers no real solutions. I recently paid nearly $500 in fees at one time for a missed appointment due to there devise and sending my truck to a mechanic, and despite the promises of help, there has been no resolution. The device has caused significant issues with my truck, draining the battery and damaging the starter twice. I took my truck to the dealership, and they confirmed the device was the cause. After replacing the battery and starter, I submitted a reimbursement form, but have yet to receive any response. I feel like this company is only interested in collecting money and not in helping customers. They promised to resolve the issue, but it’s been nothing but empty promises. I urge anyone considering this service to be cautious my experience has been a complete nightmare, and I am still waiting for someone to actually address the issue.

What do I need to bring to my installation?
Bring a photo ID and proof of residence in the form of a document verifying your address. You may also be asked to bring any documents that pertain to your case, depending on the state in which you or your program are located. How do I know if Smart Start's devices are compliant with my program?
Smart Start is a NHTSA certified Ignition Interlock provider, so we’re able to meet all of the alcohol monitoring authority’s requirements to ensure that you’re compliant within your state or county.
How often does my Ignition Interlock Device need to be serviced?

What do I need for removal?
Requirements will differ by state, but generally your state authority must grant removal authorization before you can have your IID removed. How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my Ignition Interlock?
Check with your state authority to see if you are allowed to unplug your Ignition Interlock before doing so.
Can someone else drive my car?
Yes, but whoever is driving the vehicle MUST take a breath test and pass before driving. Any failed test will still be your responsibility.
