Even though it was raining, we had no choice but to visit the Chicago Skydeck because of our tight schedule. There wasn’t much of a line to get in. At the entrance, the staff told us that the view was completely blocked due to the cloudy weather, so we decided to have lunch first and wait. After a little while, the weather started to clear up, so we went up, and fortunately, we could finally see the view. The sky wasn’t perfectly clear, but the clouds had lifted enough that we could see far into the distance. Thanks to the weather, there weren’t many people, which made it perfect for taking photos. The entrance area was designed like a museum with lots of photo spots, so there was no time for the kids to get bored.

I bought my ticket through Go City, and I didn’t have any problems entering Skydeck. I chose this activity over Chicago360 based on internet opinions and friends who have gone to Chicago. I have to say it was a good choice cause you get to see a museum with lots of facts of Chicago and the tower. Even tho I was traveling solo I got to take photos by myself and also asking strangers. It was a very nice experience, even if I’m deeply afraid of heights lol The elevator goes really really fast and as someone who was trouble with my ears I only felt a slight pressure (even less than on airplanes) and once you get to the top there’s a gift shop and lots of windows to enjoy the view and also take cool pictures. Then you get to stay in line to have a chance to take pictures in the ledge, you only get 90 seconds but they take a picture of you with a professional Camara (you can later buy those pics) and you have the rest of the time to take pictures by yourself or ask someone to take them. And if you want to, you can go as many times as you like. Maybe it’s because I’m a foreigner but I thought the pictures you buy at the end would be a little less expensive but I really wanted to have them since this trip was amazing.

🌇 Review: Skydeck Chicago – Willis Tower The Skydeck at Willis Tower in Chicago is truly one of the most thrilling and memorable experiences the city has to offer. Located on the 102nd floor of this iconic skyscraper (formerly known as Sears Tower), it offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of the entire city and Lake Michigan. The building itself is a marvel of engineering — constructed decades ago yet still standing as one of the tallest and most resilient structures in the world. You can actually feel and hear the gentle response of the building to strong winds, a reminder of its flexible yet sturdy design. Every year, the tower is struck by 50 to 60 lightning bolts, and its lightning protection system effectively neutralizes the charges — a fascinating aspect of its engineering brilliance. The highlight of the visit is definitely The Ledge — a glass balcony extending about 1.5 meters (4.3 feet) out from the main structure, allowing you to literally stand above the city and look straight down through the transparent glass floor. It’s a thrilling, once-in-a-lifetime experience that blends excitement with awe. The lift ride to the 102nd floor is smooth and fast, with an engaging video presentation about the building’s history during the ascent. The visitor area is well-organized, and staff are courteous and helpful. The surrounding shopping area and exhibits about Chicago’s history make the visit even more worthwhile. Overall, Skydeck Chicago is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the Windy City — whether you’re a traveler, engineer, photographer, or just someone who wants to see the world from above. The experience perfectly captures the spirit of Chicago: innovation, strength, and beauty.

The management sucks! We are a party of 8 people! It's just past 8 pm when we were on deck, And there is a board there that says you can join again the end of the line if your 90 second timer is done. We were there by 7:30 the first line, came to the top after walking a lot on the -2 floor. We stood in the line for about 20 mins, as we are a party of 8 we were given 2 mins. Which is not fair because even you calculate the party of 2. We should be given 90*4 = 360 sec. seconds, that's at least 180 seconds or 3 mins. Unfairly we were given 2 and I wanted to join at the end of line for a solo pic, but they denied it and told me it's past 8. If it's past 8 then don't sell tickets to make money! People come from places that are very far from Chicago to see this, and this is the experience you get! So after this we requested to go around once and see the floor as we were in a rush to see the deck first, but we were denied that again and this time I felt it's biased! The management utterly sucks and they were totally harsh, no proper communication at any point. They had a board for low visibility refund but not what happened on the top! Totally unpleasant Chicago experience! Not sure who the supervisor is, we visited on 15th of October 2025 7:30pm-8:05pm! Update: We went back again, the management explained what went wrong that day. The staff on contrary to last time were really nice and helpful this time. Maybe it's because of the private event they are stressed out.

For those that read this, some tips; -You can take your own water bottles and drinks -Get your tickets in advance online as they are booked by time slots. If you show up, the time slot closest to you, could be sold out then you're stuck waiting around for an hour or more. -Once you have the tickets, you have to wait by the lobby and gift shops. They provide on a screen that says, "now accepting tickets for X time (time slot you booked). Wait about 10 min after that time slot and go ahead and proceed to the guy scanning tickets. -Once your tickets are scanned there is a walk through museum that can take you up to 30 min to walk through. It is actually very informative and keeps you engaged with many photo opportunities. -Once you have finished the self walk through tour, then you form another line that takes you in an elevator to the top. -once you are at the top, then it is another walk through with spectacular views before heading back to the exit, which then leads you to the legde to take photos. Be prepared to wait for at least 30+ minutes to take a photo on the skydeck. -You are only allowed 1.5 minutes on the sky deck then proceed back to the elevator to the exit. -There are bathrooms up at the deck as well as drinks and a small gift shop. -Stollers are allowed. Bags are allowed and must go through a metal detector. -There is also a big food court in the main lobby of the tower. So no need to find food before hand. Hope this helps anyone with their trip!
