Best workout in the Gold Coast, at an extremely great location. People are fantastic, facilities are clean, equipment is state-of-the-art, and the app actually works! If you want to work *hard* on general whole-body fitness, but don’t have a ton of time in your schedule, this is the #1 place to go imo.

The Workout and Trainers: Rumble is fast, dark, loud, high energy, and the trainers keep you accountable. You will be called out by name! This style of workout is full on, and tends to attract a younger crowd (20s and early 30s mostly) but that’s exactly what I need to keep me motivated. You will sweat. You will hurt in the morning. I love it. The classes are designed to be 100% accessible to people who have zero boxing experience, but they’re still fun if you are more experienced. I’ve been boxing for 3 years now and I still appreciate that the combos are projected on the wall, so you don’t get lost. The bags are rubber and filled with water, which makes them more gentle on the knuckles than traditional leather bags filled with solids. Weight training and lower-body work are part of every class too, which I like. The trainers are half-DJ, half coach, and the primary skill they utilize at Rumble seems to be maintaining an incredibly positive and motivating energy in the room that ends up making you work harder than you thought you would coming in. They are clearly fitness freaks themselves (and I mean that in the best way possible), which makes them very credible and means they can demonstrate all the moves clearly without a hitch. They have a good intuition for meeting people where they’re at, without letting them get lazy. I like that they walk around and proactively offer judgement-free help if you’re struggling with a particular move. The trainers are diverse too, which I think adds a lot of value because it’s never monotonous and it makes the place feel inclusive and welcoming to all (if you can afford it of course). This is not the place to go if you are looking to refine boxing skills for a real fight. Boxing is a fun means to an end of general fitness here. But maybe it could be good supplementary fitness when combined with a real fight oriented boxing coach outside of Rumble. I’m just here to get fit in a fun way and feel destroyed in 45 min. It is hard to beat Rumble on that front.
Pricing: Yes, it is expensive. It is priced for the typical Chicago yuppie/upper-middle to upper class clientele. But pricing is in line with the trainer-led workout market in the area. I would go more often if there was a bit more cost savings to be gained by purchasing monthly memberships or bundles of classes. That said, I’ve been going here on and off for 8 months now, and I always feel like I’m getting full value for what I pay. You get even more value if you rent equipment, because gloves and wraps are included in the price (I haven’t done this, but what they offer seems to be good quality for what you’re doing and it appears to be clean). I’d definitely go even more frequently if it was financially responsible for me to do so.
