During my visit to purchase shoes, employees seemed to outnumber customers; however staff were concerned with taking care of store tasks rather than waiting on customers. As I was about to be helped with shoes, an employee whisked away the staff member who was about to help me. Smiling staff members walked by assuring me someone would be helping me soon. I tired of waiting and departed.

REI is a shadow of its former self. Relying on the decades old passion that has long since passed. Their chocolate and vanilla selection is completely uninspired. Lastly, they preach about sustainability while every tent, backpack, and piece of outwear comes fron oil. I'm done with them.

I’ve never felt so shunned at a store before. I politely declined signing up for the REI membership, and the cashier (Lucas) immediately changed his tone. His exact words were: “Want your receipt emailed? Oh wait, you’re not a member. Here’s your printed receipt, you can toss it on your way out.” That is shockingly rude, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. Instead of focusing on customer service, the pressure to become a member was prioritized and when I declined, I was dismissed like I didn’t matter. I won’t be returning to this store. If REI is more concerned with pushing memberships than treating customers with basic respect, it’s pathetic.

The worst I have been treated in any store. Employees were rude, poorly trained, and not helpful. Signs of poor management. I have never before tried to return anything to REI but when I did they made me feel like a criminal. The hiking poles broke internally. They never even looked at the poles. From 20 ft away they declared normal wear and tear. How does a 140lb person break hiking poles internally in less than 2 months of use constitutes normal wear and tear. And how they spoke to me as if I was a criminal for even trying was insulting. I was in need of new shoes. It felt like the associate didn’t want to help. Like they had something better to do. I believe they tried the story we don’t have your size in stock. We have the size just bellow your size but not your size. They seemed shocked when I said then I will try the size you said you have. Total shock. Then they stood about 30 ft away and glared at me while I took several minutes to try the shoes. Then I asked another associate who was stocking a shelf where the battery packs were. She was hesitant and looked around as if someone would chastise her for helping me and not be stocking. She guessed and was wrong on the location. I looked at hiking poles and the associate there seemed new and a bit high strung as he helped another customer. Poorly trained. Overall the worst I have been treated anywhere.
