I purchased a Garmin watch a few months ago and the charger never worked perfectly. I thought this was just how it was until one day the charger broke off completely into my computer and a friend lent me their charger which worked perfectly and easily. When I went into the store to request a new charger, I was assisted by Francisco. He took the time to look into the various options available for replacement, eventually finding that my model watch is no longer in stock in any store. He was able to get me a new charger, and I feel he really took into consideration my concerns about the charger and watch. I appreciate his support.

Needed help with sizing for an item and in an almost empty store, it was difficult to find someone to help me. When I finally did find someone and I asked how to find the right item for me, he told me, “it will feel comfortable,” without any further explanation. A second employee came by later and asked my partner and I if we were doing ok. I said I was having trouble finding an item that fit me properly. He asked if I had tried this brand, that brand, and then walked away. Highly underwhelming experience from both employees.

I had such a great experience today with Chantal at checkout! She was able to check my award balance and answer a few of my questions, all while being super kind and very quick. Such an awesome experience with an awesome staff member who really showcased the community that REI is about.

The employee working the shoe section referred to the three other customers as “sir” and “ma’am” but addressed me as “brother” and “homie”. It felt loaded and disrespectful.
I can see that just a few months ago REI workers spoke out about a persistent culture of racial bias within this organization and I can see that this issue is bleeding over to the customer experience as well. Disappointing.
