Gus is my fourth Australian Shepherd over the last 27 years. The experience of buying him from Brenda at Ramblin Ridge was by far the best purchasing experience I've ever had.
There will be a waiting list, but be patient because it's worth it.
Once you're on the list of pickers, Brenda sends regular photographs, then videos, of the puppies in a litter so that the future owners can get familiar with them. She has a clearly established pecking order of customers, so you'll know where you stand as you look at the pups.
Once you've picked out your puppy (which I did in person so I could meet the mom and pop of the puppy to see their respective demeanors, which were perfect, I might add), Brenda sends weekly updates of the puppy you picked playing with its siblings. You'll know a bit about your puppy before its ever in your arms.
During the process of selection, Brenda is always available to answer any kinds of questions. She has the kind of patience one should expect from a kennel operator.
Brenda is so thoughtful that she even sends the blanket from the pup's pen and a toy with which it played for the adjustment on the ride and once it's at its new home.
We've had Gus now for about two and a half weeks, since he was seven weeks old. He's a wonderful little guy, has already learned to come to the call of his name (helped by Brenda's familiarizing them with the call "Pup! Pup! Pup!" which for us was a simple transfer to "Gus! Gus! Gus!"), is getting to understand that most important word "No!' and already has his favorite walks on the paths in our woods, and around the yard. (That includes some no-no's such as eating the heads off flowers, but he's learning since he looks at us slyly before he chomps them off!)
He gets along great with our ten-year-old female Rockie, and she is tolerating his constant play with her, letting him know when enough's enough. Gus is smart enough to know when to quit!
I can't recommend any breeder with whom I've ever been associated more highly than Brenda. She has worked with Australian Shepherds for 25 years. She understands the difference between a family pet and a working dog, and makes sure that the customer understands that the dogs she breeds can be either, but she has focused on lineages of family pets. And she has generations' worth of blood lines to reassure the customer that the genetics are just right in her puppies.
There's so much that goes in to getting, training, and living with a dog. You don't need the added burden of uncertainty about a dog's origin or a breeder's methods. You can eliminate such uncertainty entirely by buying from Ramblin Ridge.
You'll be glad you did.
