I brought my own meal because of personal dietary preferences, and the staff told me I couldn’t sit with her since I wasn’t eating their food. They said it was a “liability issue,” but that’s not actually how California law works — restaurants aren’t liable for food they don’t prepare unless they mishandle it. I understand a “no outside food” policy, but the way it was handled felt unwelcoming and misleading. Instead of simply stating their rule, they framed it as a legal requirement. Unfortunately, even though I’ve been a regular customer, I’ll probably need to find a different lunch spot.
