The course is not playable right now as mentioned in other comments. They aerated and poured sand all over the greens to try and save them. Hopefully next year it’s playable but for now look elsewhere.

I'm an avid golfer and have enjoyed dozens of rounds at Pohick in the past. I am fully aware that courses are struggling this year and understand the need to aerate greens etc. I usually have no problems with this and it's part of keeping the courses in shape all year and this is the first review I've ever left. However I've never seen conditions like this and a course charging full price. Golfer's beware tee boxes are gone. Most greens are all sand no grass. Will look forward to a few months down the road when it's worth the price of admission again and I'll update this review.

For all the people who are bashing a lot of the public courses locally in the DMV - give em a break!! In the last few weeks in August, i've played Herndon, Twin Lakes, Penderbrook (weekly league night) and Laurel Hill...every course got beat up and is recovering. You gotta remember that some of these munis don't have the budget of a private club, so they're doing what they can and not fair to compare to Westwood or Belle Haven down the road.
I was actually pleasantly surprised how amazing the tee boxes and fairways were, very very well kept for this time of the year. This round happened in late August.
The reason I gave 4 stars vs 5 stars, to echo everyone else's comments, the greens were freshly aerated and fully sanded making the round unscorable. Completely understand this has to happen at some point, especially as they're prepping for their club tournament in October, so my suggestion would've been - either some sort of discounted rate or at least a heads up when you check in.
Frank (the GM) personally came to talk to me and walk through all the work round the clock they're doing to get the course back to what it was before the weird weather stretch. He was extremely friendly and the 2 workers behind the counter also seemed pretty down to earth. No issues with staff at all, as all were awesome.
Hoping to come back sometime later this fall and review the course again when it's back to it's normal conditions. This course is one the better bang for your buck in the area, super challenging course and a good play if you're in the area!

What used to be my go-to course in the area (barring getting a tee time at Twin Lakes) is now not worth half of what they are charging for it. I'm not sure what's happened in the last few months, but not only is the course a disaster (literally the worst greens I've ever seen on a course that costs more than $20), but the demeanor of most everyone working there has become unpleasant as well. The kids working the counter are all fine, but all of the adults have turned into your sterotypical grumpy golf course drill sergeants. Really a shame that they've let the course go from a local favorite to unplayable. They blamed it on weather when we were there, but I concur with the other recent review I saw: it doesn't get this bad without some combination of negligence and lack of knowing how to care for your course.

I mean… the course was in such horrible condition we left after 12 holes. The greens were basically bunkers, I’ve never seen anything nearly this bad. It was a gorgeous day too so we unfortunately felt like we wasted our Sunday morning and $77.
