As two vegetarians, this spot came highly recommended to us while we were visiting Chicago, and we couldn’t wait to try it. People had been raving about it nonstop, but unfortunately, we left very disappointed. The food was underwhelming and felt basic. The Volcano Roll was essentially a simple veggie roll buried under a pile of overdressed cabbage and other filler ingredients that didn’t add much. The Bang Bang Broccoli, which everyone told us was a must-try, turned out to be tempura broccoli coated in an overly sweet peanut sauce, again, drenched rather than balanced. It would’ve been far better served with the sauce on the side for dipping. The steak lettuce wraps were fine but nothing memorable. The pacing of the meal was also strange. All three of our dishes came out at once, within five minutes of ordering, yet our cocktails didn’t arrive until much later. The service itself was attentive (almost too attentive) with multiple people checking in repeatedly, to the point where we wondered if something was wrong. The atmosphere didn’t help either: it felt drafty, cold, and far from the “hip” vibe it tries to project. Overall, we were disappointed to have spent so much for such an average experience. The only redeeming part was our server, who was genuinely kind and friendly, hence the two stars instead of one.

Highly recommended. While my hometown has a few options for vegan sushi, this combination Korean and Japanese menu is substantially broader, with enough variety to give me pause as an individual wanting to try multiple items. The staff were very attentive and knowledgeable about the food. I ended up trying a Sake To Me cocktail, which was pleasantly tart, the Spicy Crab and Crispy Mushroom hand rolls, and the Crispy Rice. The latter was the staff suggestion, and for good reason. The watermelon ahi that is used in multiple menu items is truly excellent. I opted to try one of the desserts and I will say that it was good, but the savory items are clearly the draw; I wouldn’t make an effort to save room for dessert here. The setting is bright and urban, and feels spacious, on ground level with large windows looking straight out onto a high foot traffic intersection. There is a combination of curved, cushy booths and freestanding table-chair setups, along with a small bar. The restrooms are ADA accessible.

Fav dishes here (and we tried a bunch!): Drinks - Lych Please, Herb Your Enthusiasm Foods - Kim ho Bao, Bang Bang Broccoli, Chick'n Fried Mushrooms, Wafu Crunch Salad These all tasted wonderful to all the adults at the table. No leftovers. All shareable. These were the highlights of the visit. Also the beautiful dragons on the walls. Honorable Mention: Udon Noodles Truffle Fried Rice Vegetable Fried Rice French Fries Kiddos and adults liked the taste of the fries and fried rice... so clean everyone kept saying. The Udon Noodles grew on us... but the mushrooms were too big. Not so great: Crispy Gyōza - too salty and soy saucey. Everything is plant based! No dairy guys! They bring out your items as they are ready. Service is pretty good... could be a little more considerate of small humans. Atmosphere is decent, kinda loud, but intimate with low lighting (harder for older family members to see). Overall, the visit and experience was great, and I, we, would definitely visit again.

I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and it completely lived up to my expectations. I stopped in for Happy Hour and was so impressed from start to finish. The restaurant and bar area are gorgeous, beautifully designed, modern, and inviting. We sat in a booth and it was surprisingly comfortable and cozy. The service was attentive and friendly, and the food and cocktails were fantastic! Our favorites were the spicy tuna roll and the Thai lettuce wraps, both full of flavor and perfectly portioned. We ended up sitting, talking, and enjoying drinks for quite some time and were never rushed. The Happy Hour pricing and menu were perfect, and I will absolutely be back to try more dishes and enjoy the drinks.

We visited Planta Queen on 09/29/25 (order number 79) and picked up a to go order while visiting Chicago, and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. Several pieces of hair were found in our food, one of which is clearly visible in a photo we took. I called the next day to report the issue and spoke with a manager named Cameron. While I initially appreciated the chance to explain what happened, the conversation quickly became frustrating. I mentioned that I wasn’t sure what type of hair it was, possibly facial or nose hair, and instead of simply acknowledging the issue, Cameron responded with an oddly defensive and sarcastic tone. She went into unnecessary detail explaining the “science” of why it couldn’t have been nose hair and minimized the situation by saying “humans make food,” as if that excused the contamination. Throughout the conversation, she repeatedly interrupted me and used an overly “bubbly” and happy tone that felt more dismissive than helpful. It came across as performative rather than genuinely concerned. In the end, she offered a gift card, which I accepted, but the overall customer service experience was poor. What could have been a simple apology and resolution turned into an uncomfortable, patronizing exchange. Planta Queen may have a nice ambiance, but food hygiene and respectful communication are non-negotiables. Based on this experience, I won’t be returning, and I hope the management team and kitchen staff takes feedback like this seriously to improve training in food quality, cleanliness, customer care and communication.
