I have heard very good things about this veterinary urgent care, so when my dog became suddenly ill I called and made an appointment. We got there and everything was fine, but once the "Doctor", Hilary Schwafel, came in everything changed. First, she was scared of my dog that has high anxiety and wouldn't touch her. Second, she blamed us for my dog being ill and told us that my dogs previous vet would never have given my dog a dose of medication that she has been on for about 6 years. I explained to her that when they put her on that medication they told us the dosage and told us it was the same as the human form which is 7.5mg. She proceeded to tell me that there was no way they would give her that much and that she didn't need more than 2mg. Now, for context my dog is 44 lbs, I had a Chihuahua that was 12 lbs and he was on the same medication and was on 5.5mg, so I naturally questioned this line of thinking (I am in the medical field, which she did not know as I had gone home and changed after leaving work). She then read the bloodwork results to us and said that we were lucky her bloodwork came back normal because we had been overdosing her for years. She also accused us of not properly taking care of our dog because she is on grain-free food and apparently she does not agree with this choice. She is allergic to grains and gets itchy, dry skin when she is exposed to them. Also, I explained to her that we quit going to previous vet because they just weren't friendly anymore and that they had previously blinded our dog with Ivermectin (that's another story). She left the room and came back with my dogs records from previous vet and told us none of that information was in her records. I really wanted to ask her how she had the audacity to access my dogs records without our permission, as we had left for a reason and hadn't been there in a few years. I'm not sure why she needed her records but what bothers me the most is that they apparently just hand out records to whoever calls and asks for them. She originally ordered 2 prescriptions, I signed the quote and the tech left the room, he comes back about 15 minutes later and tells us that it is going to be another $50 because she added another medication. I ended up walking out with the dog (because of her anxiety) and left the rest of the family to handle getting the meds and paying the bill.
I have reported Pet Care Plus to the Lara BPL and the MVMA and hope that action is taken against this office and the supposed Doctor.
