Anyone who knows me knows that Pappadeaux’s has always been my favorite place to eat. I’ve been going since they first opened, and I’ve always loved the food and the atmosphere.
Tonight, my family and I brought a relative visiting from out of town, and I was excited for them to experience what I’ve always bragged about. I ordered the Mississippi Catfish Opelousas—my usual. But when it arrived, the fish was cold, the dirty rice was cold—everything was cold.
I sat there trying to decide whether to just box it up and warm it at home, but then I thought, Why should I do that? I wanted to enjoy my meal like everyone else. So I politely sent it back, even though I’ve always heard, “Never send food back.”
Tonight, I learned why people say that.
What came back was so hot I couldn’t even touch the plate, much less eat from it. The fish was over-seasoned to the point of being unpleasant, and worse, it was undercooked—still pink under all the seasoning. The oysters weren’t done either.
After years of loving this place and recommending it to others, I left tonight embarrassed and disappointed. Unfortunately, after this experience, I won’t be returning.
I had the Trout and Crab with a side of their bacon wrapped shrimp. It would have been too much food even without the side (-1 *). Dish comes with your choice if a side. Was told the rice was the most popular but went with the butternut squash. Not sure if it was because of the season, I was there in October, but I have a hard time believing that the rice could be better than the squash. It was delicious. The atmosphere was far from intimate, very loud both in volume and decor. TV's with sports on them ran along the walls (-2 *), I thought the person taking my order said that I could add the side of shrimp for $2.95 bit it was $12.95 on the bill. It was hard to hear her over the noise. Trivial/personal stuff really, all said, I still had a get experience.

Sorry this may be an unpopular opinion but the food was Mid and not even worth the price. The calamari taste like it was cooked in old grease, the steaks were over cooked and the salmon Alexander was way to salty. I'll pass.
One of my very few favorite American restaurant is Pappaseaux Seafood Kitchen. My picky Vietnamese mom loves the grilled fish and Vietnamese friends like the grilled fish back in Texas.
This location is probably my fifth or sixth Pappadeaux location I have been to.
Unfortunately, this location has the worst service.
The host greeted us and seated us. My friends and I sat at the table for more then ten minutes without have any server or anyone greeting us to let us know someone will be there to serve us. I had to get up and personally go tell the host to send a server over.
He server assigned to our table was very friendly. So kudos for that.
As for the food, they don't have the same fish glaze the Plano, Texas has. The blackened seasoning was too dominating making the grilled fish I enjoy tasted too salty.
My friends and I enjoyed the crawfish and shrimp fondeaux.
Gator bites are tender and worth the try.
If you ever visit Papadeux on the weekends, please ask for Ethan! He provided a great experience and offered great suggestions, even pairing our dinner with select sauces to enhance our meal experience. In a world like today, the simplest things like your food order should be exactly how Ethan displayed. Makes tipping this waiter a pleasure!
