Wow, it’s shocking how downhill Panera has gone. Decided to try them again after a few years and we bought 2 sandwiches. These were the smallest portioned sandwiches I’ve seen. One half literally fit in the palm of my hand. On top of the super small portions, the food itself was very mediocre. $25 for two sandwiches is steep but if you’re paying that price you better be receiving a high quality sandwich, which you are not here. Very disappointing.

Me and my boyfriend went through the drive thru, ordered a pick 2 with a grilled chicken and avo blt and a cup of broccoli cheddar for myself and he got a broccoli cheddar bread bowl. After we got home and opened the bag it was a Chipotle chicken avocado sandwich, one cup of broccoli cheddar and an empty bread bowl that the bread wasn't even spooned out of. Very disappointed that we mostly got bread more than our actual meal. bread bowl wasn't even carved out, what the heck very ridiculous.
We have received two carelessly incorrect orders now- A missing or out of stock ingredient is one thing, but both times I have received significantly incorrect orders. My most recent order included three full sandwiches, I received only half of two of them. One appeared to be ripped in half and not even completely toasted on both sides. they have been out of chips both times we have visited, and we received pieces of bread that were carelessly thrown into the bag. Sandwiches were not wrapped completely, so our food was falling apart in the bag as well. Very frustrating from a restaurant that is not exactly cheap… I think they need to have better training for staff. I have tried multiple times to call and speak directly to a manager, but they never pick up the phone. I understand it can be busy, but customer service is important too.
First experience I went through the drive thru for breakfast it was very slow didn’t see a single customer in the store. I was the only person in the drive thru. Took atleast 15 mins to get my one breakfast sandwich. That ended up being something completely different from what I ordered. Thought I’d Id give them another chance though. Second experience I ordered ahead online. (Remembering the long wait last time.) ordered for my wife and I, two sandwiches. Both very simple sausage sandwiches. Mine on a different bagel than normal with white cheddar instead of the American with no sauce. Said it would be down in 5 mins. So I left my house (6mins away) and picked up the sandwich’s. Great no wait! BUT! The sandwiches were ice cold. And they completely messed up the order again…. I got mine on the bagel I wanted but the wife got the white cheddar and the light sauce. I’ll be going to bruegges bagels down the road from now on.
I’ve never had such a bad impression of Panera until this one and I’ve tried this chain all over Milwaukee and Waukesha counties for years. I understand it’s a new location, but it’s built way too small for the demand and it’s dirty despite having a plethora of employees! There’s no cutlery anywhere to grab. I was annoyed that I ordered soup to go and they didn’t even give me a spoon! Good thing I checked before I left. I waited so long for my food that I just ended up eating it on the patio so I wasn’t late for work. There’s barely any seating inside.
I initially ordered on the kiosk, but every single option I tried was out of something. How are you out of avocado, various cheeses, LETTUCE?! I tried to use a code I got online for $5 off and it wouldn’t allow me on the kiosk. After wasting almost 10 minutes, I finally had to see a human cashier to complete my order. I will say she was very nice and helpful, but I’m sorry. I’m turned off by someone who has very long fake nails when handling food. It grosses me out. When I worked at a restaurant back in the day, my manager wouldn’t even allow chipped nail polish much less acrylic nails.
Overall, I don’t think I’ll be back even though I was really looking forward to this Panera opening in Oconomowoc. They should have studied the Panera in New Berlin off Moorland & Beloit Rd. That place is large, has a smooth drive through/rapid pick up area, and has never looked as dirty as the one in Oconomowoc even though their capacity is twice as big if not bigger. Sorry, Panera. Maybe new management is needed.
