My recent visit to Panera was an incredibly frustrating and costly experience. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the $30 price tag for what was a disappointingly meager and low-quality meal. The "You Pick Two" combo, which included a half salad, half sandwich, a drink, and a bagel, felt like a complete rip-off. It’s hard to justify that price for such a small amount of food.
The salad was especially disappointing. It looked nothing like the vibrant, fresh images advertised on the menu or the restaurant's walls. Instead, it was an unappetizing mix that was overwhelmingly flavored with basil. It seemed like the chef had a heavy hand with the seasoning, to the point where it completely masked any other flavors. I even found an entire basil flower mixed in with my greens, which made me question the quality control and overall preparation of the food. To add insult to injury, they didn't even provide a spoon for my salad, making their already-lacking "table service" even more of a joke.
This whole experience felt more like a glorified deli with a ridiculous price tag. The fact that I paid $30 and still had to bus my own table is honestly infuriating. If I'm paying this much, I expect some level of service, not a glorified fast-food setup. This meal felt more like overpriced hospital food than something you'd expect from a well-known chain. The experience was so bad that I’m genuinely considering a chargeback on my credit card. The value for the money just wasn’t there, and it felt like a complete waste. Panera really needs to re-evaluate their pricing and the quality of their ingredients. This was my last straw, and I doubt I'll ever be back.
