Panera has gone downhill over the years. I’ve been a loyal customer for over 20 years, but my visits have declined sharply in the last five—and especially in the last two.
Prices have understandably increased, and like many fast-casual restaurants, Panera started asking for tips. I do tip, but unfortunately, customer service has declined. Tipping hasn’t led to better service—since you tip before receiving your food, there’s no incentive for staff to follow through attentively.
Orders are frequently inaccurate, and food often takes a long time to arrive. Staff appear poorly trained or supervised, and their attitude, especially from those delivering food, can be dismissive or unfriendly.
I rarely visit the 71st & Mingo location anymore—it’s usually empty, yet mistakes still happen. The 41st & Yale location used to be better, but my last visit sealed the deal: I ordered a simple, untoasted bagel that never arrived. The café was nearly empty, yet the order was still mishandled.
It’s disappointing to see a once-great brand decline like this. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.
