The Nugget Alaskan Outfitter, “NAO” for short, is a descendant of the Nugget Department Store opened in 1974 by Bill Flint and a group of local investors. The Nugget Department Store carried men's, women's and children's clothing, plus bedding, sheets and giftware. In 1987, when Lamont's entered the local market, all departments were closed out except the men’s department which was wheeled down the hallway and opened a few days later as The Nugget Men’s Store. Over the years, the business developed into its current incarnation — an outdoor-oriented shop with goods for a variety of outdoor sports and activities, renamed The Nugget Alaskan Outfitter.
Great selection of outdoor apparel! Some brands I've never seen, always some sales!

Smaller place than the big REIs, but has just about anything you might want for outdoor activities. Staff is helpful and prices are decent. They also usually have a pretty good clearance section.
