  My mother's service was terminated for non payment. She paid the bill and the reconnect fee. The company did not turn the gas line back on and that night was 32 degrees outside and she was freezing all night long. The company said they are not entitled by law to turn the line back on, only unlock it so the homeowner can turn it on themselves. It is illegal to charge a "Reconnect fee" if you do not reconnect the house to the gas supply. That is a charge for a service not rendered.
